1933 40 Model Fenders on a Model A
 

This might not be an appropriate topic, but i would like some input on people w/ Model A's

Ive been working on just a chassis and picking Model A parts whenever i can get them.
And ive been toying around the idea of making my model a fenders look like the 33-34 ford fenders....w/ skirts.

how do you think it would look?

these photos are from model a's i found online and i edited the fenders myself

It is your car to do as you wish, ...and I know many here want this to be a "all encompassing" Model A forum, but when you post one picture depicting your plan of having a chopped top, and one picture with a '32 frame rail and modified fenders as if that is an alternate plan you are seeking to accomplish, is it possible you are crossing the boundaries of what the owner of this forum has clearly stated he wanted discussed here? Maybe that is why you started your question by saying "This might not be an appropriate topic ...."?? My personal opinion is that neither idea of what you are proposing would look aesthetically appealing but if you are sincere in your endevors and feel it will bring happiness to you by making these major modifications, then I say Go For It.

jnunez1955 is also talking of '33-'34 type skirted fenders on the front.
See his photos.
I've not seen that before !
Since he asked for opinions, I would say that rear skirts throw the styling, out of balance. The fronts, not so bad.

The skirted fenders on the front shouldn't look horrible. The side mount well the spare wheel goes in kind of gives that illusion that they dip down like a later skirt.

In fact, It kinda bugs me a little bit that you do see the back side of the well, and I think it would have been nice design to have covered that.

Now, with all that being said, If you were to go through with this customization, the hot rodder crowd might find it interesting, but it also may go un-noticed. You won't get too many high fives from the restorer crowd.

This request you're asking kind of feels "Low Rider Bomb" style to me. Is that what you are going for?

My opinion is that skirts on an A Model look silly. Looks like a kids old toy to me.

They just look too flat, and don't add anything IMO. Not just on a Model A but look at a Duesenberg from the mid 1930's, they tried to add skirts and it didn't make the cars better looking. Less is more many times.

Why mess with a good thing? This reminds me of the 29 A pickup I saw that was fitted with Model T fenders. Looked like ass.

As for the rear fender skirts- no comment so as to not offend those who do like them. :)

Well, thanks to Jason in TX...for posting pics of a model a w/ skirts
and me actually being able to see pics of them, i would agree that rear skirts just dont cut it for a Model A.

but i still agree w/ FL&WVMIKE .... The front 33-34 style fenders might looks good, but i dont have any pictures that can justify it.

You asked for it, so here is my reply. IMHO, I don't like fender skirts on anything, period. I do like the look of a Model A with the later wheels with wider tires, and no white walls.

yea, well i always liked 33-34 coupes...but there just way out of my price range.
which is why im working on a model A....its alot more affordable.

i personally like fender skirts on later coupes and i was just curious on how it would look on a model a...
Like this 33' for example looks great w/ skirts. imo

But thanks for the feedback everyone, i can see now thanks to Jason in TX...that a model a just doesnt look right with skirts.

I saw a pic of a '30 roadster years ago with a '33 front end on it, it looked really nice in my opinion. Skirts, no way! Same for whitewalls!

Jim - Here is a picture of an A style truck (may be 32-34, I can't tell) with a 33-34 passenger grill shell on it. Looks a little odd to me.

That's an A truck, '32 and later had metal tops. It does look a bit odd. The one I saw was a roadster with full hood & side panels. To each his own!

Fender skirts on Model A,s are just too strange these days,most remember and identify with the stock open fender well look.The skirted look might have been more popular back then during the Art Deco era in the thirties when everything was being streamlined, like crack passenger steam locomotives .It was an interesting era and the streamlining looked good on some bad on others.I would classify the A as one of the others.

Nah,

You better leave that alone. Looks funny too much square shape to go throwing rounded things in there. Love your A for what it is. I have both and A and a '33. Different animals and shouldn't be combined. Shorts on a Rooster, for sure.

I was going to keep quiet about this one, but I can't stand it any more... I vote "NO"... makes my eyes hurt. Add to that list the following:

Overdoing the extras... less is more.
and the thing that really hurts my eyes... upside down landeau irons.

there... feels better.
