16 inch tires

I'm putting sixteen inch wheels on for touring and would like some suggestions as to make and size for a tudor. Blackwalls only!

I know I've said this many times, but 16" wheels and tires will make your Model A look funny.

Only to you and the purists. To many of us, 16's fill the fenders better and look more up to date than the skinny A's.

not really, I have 16s and the total diameter with tire is less than half an inch less than the 19s

I ran 16's for years on a Coupe and Pick Up. They cornered better than 19's and I liked the Look. I think the size was 16x 600. I have also seen 16 x 6:50's on the rears.

I am running Dunlop Grantrek 215-70 R16 Radials on mine and am very happy with them. I am running them tubless and have had no problems with them. They are slightly smaller in diameter than the originals so the speedometer reads slightly higher.

If you have a fender mounted spare you might consider a slightly smaller tire for the spare to make for a better fit in the well. Sort of a first step towards todays "donut" spare tires.

Hey Bill,
I'm with Jim B and second his recommendation for radials.
But, Coker steel belt radials is what I use now !

Some GOOD things about these Coker radials for your consumption/consideration:
Coker used an original mold pattern from the 1935 era...so the tire looks more correct with the rim.
Coker makes a special heavy rubber 'radial' tube for their steel belt radial tire.
Coker makes a tube 'stem protector' ...to protect the rubber stem which protrudes thru rim...otherwise will chaff /cut on the sharp rim stem hole ...VERY nice safety/custom touch for them to make for us:) !
I got white walls, which Coker gives you chose of widths of whitewall.
Or you can get same tire in blackwall.

Now back to Jims recommendation, regarding steel belted tires.
I have run my Cokers for 8 years and they still look great, like new ! But, best assets of all, IMO, is that they provide a GREAT handling, ride and SAFETY at all speeds....which equals piece of mind , regarding being on the road and having no worries on where am I going to get the skinny original tires if emergency developes. Sixteen inch tires are commonly available for 16 in rims,eh! My experience/opinion only. I'm sure that you will get others.

Re: 16 inch tires

If you plan on doing any serious touring 16 are the way to go. Cooper P215-70 R16 on my 31 SW with O D .

Re: 16 inch tires

Thanks all.The radials will be for touring and I'll keep the 19's for whatever. I have a Mitchell O.D. and "B" engine/w 5.9 head so I don't think the shorter 16's will have much effect on engine speed. Probably go with Cooper for pricing. Thanks again guys!

I have the 215-70 r16 on my s/w and they ride great. And look great. I run them tubeless on 1935 wire wheel"s.
