Clutch pedal problem

Hello all, I'm asking a question for an older friend who doesn't have a computer. He drives 5k or more each year and solves most of his problems himself but now he's stumped. On a recent drive his clutch pedal would not go all the way down. It jams about 3/4 of the way. He thinks the problem might be one of the 6 springs in the clutch disc has come loose. Any suggestions?
TIA Ian

Re: Clutch pedal problem

Remove the floor mat, upper floorboard and clutch inspection cover on the top of the bellhousing and look inside the clutch area. Hand crank the engine and use a strong flashlight to see if a spring has fallen out of the clutch disk or if a spring in the pressure plate has broken and is jamming the clutch face operation. 'Should be obvious if one or both is at fault.

Take the cover off the bell housing and shine a light in there. Rotate the engine and account for all the springs. If the clutch disk is one of the poor quality disks that lack spring supports it is a good chance one of them came out. A common fault with these disks.

Great minds DO think alike, don't they, Tom? 'Beat ya' in posting the same advice by two minutes! I'm usually 10 minutes BEHIND because I am a wordy scoundrel. :)

yea thats what I would check too. lead to hyd clutch failure on my s10 for the same reason...springs fell out disc, jamed fingers, pushed clutch and blew the slave cyl...still drove to work haha.

not alot to prevent the pedal for fully going down besides a jam-up in the fingers, some reason the throwout bearing uhh housing is jammed on the slide, physical blockage of the pedal from underneath or floorboards jamming it.
