40 ford rear hub sleeves 1 Attachment(s)
I Have just pulled down some old stock 40 rear hubs and the outer dia of the hub has lots of pitting ,(water /rust damage from sitting a long time ) is this a sleeve inside there or is it original machined hub surface , Is there a sleeve available to press in and fit smaller od bearings ? or am i up for new hubs
Thanks In advance Phil |

Sorry, Can't advise you of what to do, but here is a larger picture so other Ford Barners can see the problem easier and offer suggestions. |
Re: 40 ford rear hub sleeves Well, Does the brake diameter make it worth saving? Nice taper and keyway? Newc

Re: 40 ford rear hub sleeves Are you sure that's a 40 hub? I thought all hubs 36-48 ran a sleeve 68-1236A with the 68-1225A roller bearing, which is smaller in dia than the earlier style B-1225A roller bearing 28-36, which ran directly in the hub. That hub looks like it's had rollers running directly in it as evidenced by the pattern left in the rust.

Re: 40 ford rear hub sleeves Yes its definitely a 40 hub , the sleeve 68-1236A 3.120" OD is for a 34 hub ,this sleeve presses into a 34 hub and then you use the 68-1225A roller bearing , this sleeve is to big in diameter to go inside my 40 hub which measures 2.840" OD , yes this bearing runs directly on the hub surface , Ive tried a few suppliers in Australia but they only carry the sleeves for the earlier hubs , i will probably buy new replacement hubs and use my l standard size drums
