56 instrument cluster module holes?

2 Attachment(s)
So have this instrument cluster module that has 5 small hole drilled in it. This is the way I got it but been too long to remember if there was something there or not. Anyone have any idea what these holes are for?

Also anyone know the size of screws that hold the instrument cluster 10848 to the panel 10838? Tried 8/32 but that is not it. I did get metric 4mm to work but did not know they used metric screws back then.

56sedandelivery is asking what size screws hold the Instrument Cluster?

On cars with vinyl/padded dashboards, there is an 'eyebrow' transition molding that goes there. One of the parts cars I had when my '56 was restored had that dashboard and moldings on it.

DAMN! TALK ABOUT BEING SHARP!

Who would have ever known that? B6A 10987-A

Are those holes on every model, padded dash or not?

NOTE -

The retaining screws are 52776-S2. I will try and find my STANDARD PARTS CATALOG and get a sizing.

Is it similar to this chrome trim along the underside of the upper edge?

Yes ...

Re: 56 instrument cluster module holes?

That is probably it. When I pulled the part there was no padding on it. They all do not have these holes as I have one that does not have them. This is the better one so probably will just fill them in.

Do they prominently show? Be a shame to modify an original piece. I bet someone is looking for one.

The only things metric on these cars is the spark plugs.

No they're not on every module. The one I used did not have them.

THANX for the info and speaking loudly so I could here you ... :D

There is only one listed in the MPC so the other must have been dropped at some point.

FYI -

The molding was used on both the 56 FORD and 57 BIRD.

Re: 56 instrument cluster module holes?

Here's my question; since the Courier is a Mainline series car, did the factory even include padded dashboards in any of the Mainline series cars in '56?
And if not, then did they just install the same instrument cluster housing with the pre-drilled holes, or did they have some that were not drilled for the padded dash trim piece?

Re: 56 instrument cluster module holes?

Probably not. This is most likely off a pick a part car. Back in the day, mid 80s, I would scrounge thru the pick a part yards grabbing whatever off 55/56 fords. Have enough spare parts for two, three cars, LOL. Yeah had the car way back then. So who knows what it came off of. The deal is this one is in better shape the original one that has some deterioration on the back side. Holes are minor so will probably leave them since it is a resto mod anyway.

Can you do me favor and see if either has a CASTING ID NO and post them?

BTW - You do whatever you feel the need to do with regards to your car. Do not listen to the whining of an CDO a$$-hole such as myself.

If the holes bother you, you do what you want to do.

Never know. If it is a RESTO-MOD, it would look sharp (IMO) with a padded instrument panel. They are available repro.

Sorry about that piece for your headliner. I could not find a reference in the MPC.

There does not appear to be any casing numbers on either one. The one with the holes in it on the back lower right side there is: KS-2 49204. Those are the only number on them. The one without the holes has no numbers at all.
