Sealing wax on condenser?

On page 214 of service bulletins it says to remove the sealing wax from condenser screw to remove. What was the reasoning behind the wax? To prevent the screw from loosening; or seal the distributor? Any ideas? I have sealing wax.

The plug was for keeping out moisture, the vendors have them.

The plugs are a great idea. I have closed another hole that allows moisture into the distributer, the slot for the top plate arm the spark advance rod goes to, it's huge and allows moisture directly in to corrode the points. I cut a piece of inner tube large enough to cover the hole and cut a slot in it for the arm & it's movement. I then unhooked the rod and slid it over the arm and contact cemented it to the outside of the distributer upper body. If your A lives outside like our "yard art" on the front lawn does, this will keep it starting regularly.

Sealing wax melts at much too low a temperature to be used on the distributor.
I melted some of it years ago, and took the temp when it melted.

A+L sells a nice plug for that purpose.

Or, you could just move to a drier, less humid climate.

Re: Sealing wax on condenser?

Hi - does anyone know the model of the condenser used when fitting modern points and condenser on a Model A? I think it may be an FD-95 as fitted to a 1970s Ford but am not sure. I'm looking to get hold of a new old stock / good quality part rather than a repro one if possible as I think the quality may be better. Any help much appreciated. Thanks
