What oil is recommended for the Mitchell Synchro gearbox

I serviced one of my cars yesterday in preparation for a 1,000 mile run. It is my only car with the Mitchell synchro gearbox fitted. The oil was an inch or more down from the filler hole so I topped it up. Through force of habit, I used the same oil that I use in the standard gearboxes and now I wonder if I did the wrong thing I used a 250 grade transission oil by Penrite. Do Mitchells recommend an EP oil or the standard oil? If I used the wrong one, I'll drain it and refill with EP GL5 oil, if that is what is supposed to be what's in there. I've done no miles on it yet so now would be the time to fix it if I screwed up.

I had the same question. Called Mitchel because I have both the Mitchel OD and the Mitchel synchronized transmission. I was advised to use 85w140 gear oil in both the OD and Tranny. They emphasized that GL5 was required. I now use this for the differential also.

Thanks for that. As soon as I posted the question, I went looking for the literature that came with the gearbox. I found it - surprisingly. It said 90 grade EP GL5 oil and in bold letters, do not use 600 grade oil. I have already drained and refilled the gearbox with the correct oil and I'll use what I took out in the diff.
I feel better about things now.
