Where to find Tudor kick panels? Hey Guys, my '30 Tudor has the original kick panels but they are pretty chewed up along the bottoms. I have been hunting for a new set, but haven't had luck- anyone know who sells them, or has a set for sale?
Thanks, Jim |
Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Mr. jchochole...try any of these guys:
UPHOLSTERY 1. www.LeBaronBonney.com LeBaron Bonney (Massachusetts) 2. www.cartoucheupholstery.com Cartouche (New York) 3. www.classtique.info Classtique Upholstery (Minnesotta) 4. No known website: Bill Sturm Upholstery (920)-739-0616 (Wisconsin) 5. No known website: Lee Chatterton (501) 525-8727 (Arkansas) Don't throw your originals away as some guys do...someone may want them an may be able to restore them depending on how bad they really are. Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Thanks Steve- the bottoms are delaminating due to moisture and shoes scuffing them getting in and out (or little friends nibbling) so I'll hang onto them just in case.

Can you post a photo of them? Pluck |
Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Also save original material samples for displays at the Model A museum, or for someone saving sample of original materials, such as Gretchen Minners was doing.

Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Use the originals for patterns and make some yourself. This is a good chance to get creative and not do any harm that is hard to undo.

Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? If it is a driver, use the old ones as a pattern and make them.

Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? You can get upholstery cardboard and cover (glued on) it with black vinyl (sewing area in walmart etc.), this what the professional shops are doing. The problem with the cardboard available is that after time and moisture it gets wavey. I have used 1/8" plywood before and 1/8" insulation board before and both worked and both were able to be sewn through if you decide to put a binding like the original
|
Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? I used 1/8" hardboard from Home Depot. Can't sew through, but it takes glue very well. I just painted mine.

Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Jwilli-
Just for clarity – what did you mean by hardboard? Are you talking about a thin sheet of plywood, or something else? What do you glue over the top – just black vinyl? |

I just sprayed mine black. Good for a driver, not for a show car. |

Here are the condition of my '30 originals.

Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Contact lebaron Bonney, they sell the kick panels ready to go and be done with it. A very simple easy quality fix..if money is an issue then make something out of cardboard and cover it with some sort of vinyl... It's a matter of what your after

Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Were kick panels originally matched to exterior paint colour? On all body styles? This appears to be so for my survivor E28 Canadian built Australian assembled phaeton.

I've believe my door cards and kick panels to be original. The photos show my E28 phaeton's original blue/green paint (see top edge of door where pin striping remains) and the interior (door and kick panel). I know the light doesn't help to distinguish the colours too well, but it looks like a matching colour combo to me - i.e. the interior trim is also green. This is a Canadian built, Aussie assembled car - maybe things were different here? |
Re: Where to find Tudor kick panels? Hooga, you upholstery and panels are not original according to US built Model A open cars. That's all I was referring to when I described the colors of the panels and upholstery.
I know Marco has posted excellent pictures of open car upholstery, so you can see the patterns and colors. Actually this thread is about a Tudor, so this part should be a new thread. |

One would think that with all this technology today, a metal roller could be etched ($$$$$$$$$$) with the same pattern as the cardboard panels thus roll the panels producing the etching then spray paint the cardboard. I have not seen any originals of "textured fabric"...only cardboard with either the etchings on the board when the paint was applied or when the paint was applied, it was applied to show the texture in the paint on the flat surface.
