lost interest in 2013, working on it again.
 

It's been several years since I visited this forum, since 2013 I believe.

I had been restoring my wife's 29 standard coupe and flat out lost interest. Nothing was going my way and frustration set in so I walked away.

I'd make it to the shop and could always find other things to do and avoid the A in the corner.. In the meantime I Bought another vehicle with a bad engine, put in a new motor and installed it for a daily driver.

The coupe sat in the corner of the shop under a few sheets and several layers of dust.

In the last few weeks I've unburied it and have started working on it again. Motor's running and I'm continuing my work.

I've rebuilt the horn and got it working again and painted and am now faced with top wood installation which I can find no instructions for nor good pictures.

I had a few failures and lost both my pics and backups of the teardown so any chance of getting it put back right to install the wood will be trial and error. Seems that Les Andrews books only cover the 30/31, not the 28/29 so I'm kind of stuck.

I live in Winchester VA, not far from Luray and had thought about taking time off work and making a drive down to the "Model A Garage" to see what they could do for me but alas I probably couldn't afford the shop rates to get the wood installed.

Can anybody share any pics or give me a link to wood install on a 29 standard coup so that I can try and make some progress? I haven't a clue.

I wish I could help you, but I don’t know much about the wood on the cars. However, I’m glad you making progress on your car again. I don’t know about you, but nothing beats taking a drive in our Model A. [emoji3]

To your 'lost interest' issue,do something on it everyday,doesnt matter how much,just do something.

I think the 29 is very close to the 30-31 other than the cowl where there is no wood so you wouldn't be far off going by that. Even the trunk lids are the same. I have a 30 coupe with no interior if you need a specific photo of something. There is a swap meet in Luray next month, might meet people there, I am probably too far south. https://www.mapwsm.com/

I do have the wood kits. I guess I should differentiate between top wood and body wood. Both of which I have.

I 'think' I could be able to figure out the 'top' wood but the 'body wood' is what's giving me the most headache. Around the windows and hardware needed.

Its a big puzzle that i don't have. I've been searching for all kinds of photos to see how they would be attached.

I guess i should start by identifying each piece and where it should go.

The cutaway will help you a lot. We might get a better idea of what you have with a couple of pictures. Replacing the wood is one thing, hunting up missing brackets, and missing fasteners is another.

This is the body wood I have for the standard coupe (45A)

It's been sealed and Im trying to identify the pieces.

at the top is the U shaped pieces for the side windows.
at the bottom are the wood for the back window
To the left is the back portion for the seat and in the middle are the sides.

Identifying the rest and how to assemble is where I am at now. I haven't sealed the top wood yet.

The body metal has been prepared by a guy (photos here) from "Flop Custom" in Pittsburgh back in 2011/2012.

This is not to be a points car. Its to be a driver and enjoyed.
The body is in primer, on the frame and the engine runs but needs brakes completed. It's going to be hydraulic because that is the way my wife inherited it with 40s style hardware. I still need to run lines and get master cylinder mounted.

I've probably done many things 'ass backwards' in reassembly but I'll make due and get it running.

I don't have a copy of the service bulletins.

I did find a hardback copy of them on Amazon.

Is this the reference you are speaking of?

Hello Banjoman, I have been in your shoes with my 1932 Coupe. It took me 26 years to finish the project. Much of the time, I was just looking at it! It was body work and missing parts. Thank God for the holy days of Hershey. You have to do something, no matter how small, every day. Eventually, you find that there are no other parts to put on the car, the paint work is done and you are driving it. Good luck with your project. Ed

My service bulletin should be here by Friday.
I spent some time searching for pictures here and have identified more pieces and where they go. Now to sort out the hardware.

You are headed forward. Hope you can find a car near you to use to help you learn what goes where. That would be a big help.

The pics I have been able to find have been invaluable. I now have the pillar wood in and started with the tacks.

I've found a good air 'palm nailer' that should work with my 80 gallon compressor. I'll not be swinging a hammer if I can help it.

Now that things are starting to come together, Should trimming of the wood be expected or should it fit "As is" with the fasteners?

I doubt it will be plug and play depending on who made your kit . I have photos of a wood kit I installed in a 29 standard coupe in my albums . I tried to upload but no luck if it will help you I can pull the tarps my project its in hibernation and take new pics and try to upload . The search tab at the top of the page will find what you need .
