No Foot Starter
 

In the latest issue of The Restorer Magazine,there is an advertisement for a push button starter for the Model A. My Victoria has the Ken Davis A/C. The A/C unit blocks the starter button, and makes it difficult to reach the starter button! Has anyone used the No-Foot-Starter? It looks promising! I know it's not what Henry designed, but it would work for me! Thanks, Fred

There is two ways you can go with this one way is to wire it up like the later model V8 with a solenoid the other way is that starter adapter that attaches to your spark advance lever it's pretty much a bolt on I will look in the Snyder's catalog and give you a parts number

Just put in a solenoid then you just push a small button.

It's called a Sparky start a one one 384 this is at Snyder's I got mine through eBay a little cheaper

Jack, I was thinking about doing what you suggest . I like this because you can use your exsisting cables! And you don't have to drill a hole in your dash.

You do have to modify your starter post to attach a cable to it. Better have a starter guy do it. Good luck.

I have the one that attaches to the spark lever and it has worked great for years. I put it in because at age 82 I couldn't push the foot starter button any longer. Jack

I got a tractor solenoid and a push button from ebay. I also got the needed cables there also. I reversed the started switch contact so it was always making contact. It works great.

My starter works by pulling on a cable under the dash. That activates a lever on the starter switch to make the contact. It must be something aftermarket but it is the only one I have seen.

Industrial Model A and B engines in 30's - combine, welders, water pump, sawmill used cables on starters. My Model B Diamond block had one with a governor.

In 1932, they used a pull cable. You could rig up a cable on your steering column pretty easily with the 1932 switch.

1933-34 starters on their 4-cyl. cars had a remote switch similar to a solenoid, but foot operated. Those starters can be connected with a modern solenoid and either button operated or via a key-switch.

I am using a key-switch starter that utilizes a solenoid. It was a kit I bought from Merle's Garage in Parker, TX. The kit included all the necessary cables and wiring. Switch fits the regular Model A instrument panel, no holes to drill anywhere.

Interesting! I've been to his shop to do some work on an A and had no idea he was selling those kits. Good to know! :)
