Roof coating

The roof fabric on my 29 Fordor leaks a lot of water if we get caught in a rain storm. I'm leaving for a New England tour in a few days and would like to put some sort of treatment on it before the trip. Has anyone tried "Flex Seal" for that?

I used "top dressing" on mine, years ago, before I replaced the top. Can't remember where I got it.
If you are passing through eastern CT on your trip, stop in and say hi.

In the POOR days, Chief used that roof patching tar like stuff, that comes in a "NO LABEL" silver can. After it sets up some, brush through it with a stiff old brush & it looked like "LONG GRAIN COPRA"! It's still available & CHEEP!

According to the ads on TV, "Flex-Seal" will float a screen door. See no reason why it wouldn't work, at least for a temporary fix.

Back in the 60's the roof on my Dads coupe leaked. He went were some men were taring a roof. The Men tared the A's roof, put some gravel over the roof, never leaked.

FYI this stuff is nothing other than remarketed vehicle undercoating...sprays out in a runny liquid but very quickly sets up into a very fresh asphalt smell

So, will it smell bad? I plan to replace the roof ...eventually.

Re: Roof coating

We did not sign up for the Mystic show this year. We went for 10 years, but staying all day until 3pm is tough on the woman, who suffers from Lyme disease. In years past, I drove my tudor, my son drove the green roadster pickup, my daughter drove the roadster, and she drove her yellow roadster pickup, but times change.

You are welcome to stop in Uncle Bill. CT is a million miles from california. We dont have a dog. We usually have a cat, but he went missing when we went to the new england meet. Woman is very upset. Hope the cat comes back.

Re: Roof coating

What people don't understand is that they don't own (have) a cat. The cat owns them!

Re: Roof coating

Probably a good quick/temporary fix. Mask the car very well as that stuff does apply a bit more erratic than spray paint. Good luck:)

Very true, and I have quoted that a lot. He may return, has been missing for 3 or 4 days before. He is a good cat.

Smells like fresh hot asphalt when it comes out but within a day its pretty much dissapated as it dries. Once its fully cured it doesnt have a smell, BUT i havent ever put it on top of a vehicle where the sun can heat it up again:D
