36-39 hubcap what is it

My great friend “Hotrod Willie” gave me this. What is the background. I would love a set of them.

Very unusual "wide-five" hubcap. Doesn't look like the ones fitted to USA Fords of this era. Could be European?

Re: 36-39 hubcap what is it

I would guess it is a reproduction where they couldn't use V-8 but wanted something that looked close going down the road........ -RG

Lawson gave me an idea... Does it fit a ford wide 5 or a VW wide 5? Woulda been slick on one of those bugs with the '40 ford' glass nose.

Re: 36-39 hubcap what is it

i agree with jeep guy. there was a lot of model A dust caps that say "FOOL" on them, written in a script that makes it look like ford unless you study it. jc whitney perhaps

Another example of just not quite there.....IF you look. A very well done reproduction IF the top of the script "F" was there

.

Well, since we're talking about un-authorized 'faux' V8, and 'faux' Ford Script stuff here on Kiwi's thread, I'll play TOO! This on the trunk of a '40 coupe that I'm very familiar with. DD

Actually, Chevy had a V8 in production long before Ford did... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Series_D

Re: 36-39 hubcap what is it

I've has a Wide 5 cap similar to the one in this thread. I believe they were aftermarket. You've likely seen the Model A hubcaps that say "Fool" instead of "Ford" in the typical Ford script as CAS3 mentions. I have several of the "Fool" caps as I think they are neat and even have them on My Model A speedster. Same scenario I think

There's a "bool" version as well.

Re: 36-39 hubcap what is it

Google says the word “bool” maybe Scottish dialect for the word “bowl”. It also mentions the man who is credited with starting “ Boolean logic “or the basis for modern computer science....George Boole......Mark

Here is another Reproduction Ford Hubcap, this time one for the 1954 Ford. So that the Manufacturer didn't have to pay Royalties, they changed the two centre letters of the word FORD into something that looks like V8?
