Spring Shackle --Grease Hole Up or Down

This may be a question that makes no difference, but when installing a new spring shackle do you have the grease hole pointing down or pointing up. After replacing the bushings and new shackles, I can't get my front spring shackles to take grease. All parts are new.so I don't know what I might have done incorrectly. Thanks

There should be two grease zerks pointed outward. I've never seen them up nor down.

I think Ol Jenny is asking about the grease passages drilled into the shackle shank.

I didn't really pay attention to mine when i replaced them and they take grease normally.

You might try having someone rock the body back and forth while you try to force the grease in.

It might be a little tricky..

I use a grease gun with a needle tip as I have a variety of grease fittings on my truck...

Your new parts fit snug...so the gaps in there are very small, too small to pass grease easily. The grease that you (hopefully) applied during installation will be sufficient for many miles, so there is no need to immediately grease them up.

If the grease fittings are threaded, you may want to temporarily replace the fittings with high pressure Zerks. Or you can use a thinner grease for now.

Ol Jenny, is the weight of the car on the wheels when you grease it? If so, you might try jacking it up by the chassis so the wheels are off the ground and there is no weight on the shackles. You should be able to get grease in there then.

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas to try, as I had not tried any of them.
