Gas with stabilizer How long can I use premium gas(no ethanol) that's had stabilizer added?

Re: Gas with stabilizer stabilizer, i believe. mentions storage. try the fuel, if necessary dilute with new gas.

Re: Gas with stabilizer I "think" that during storage, it helps to keep the tank FULL??

Re: Gas with stabilizer I have had it work in my 8N tractor that was stored for over a year in an unheated shed . It started right up and ran fine. I run a zenith in my tractor.

Re: Gas with stabilizer Like Bill said... full tank for storage. If not full I would make it totally empty.
I think that fuel without ethanol will last in storage a surprisingly long time as long as the tank is full. I wouldn't bother with adding a stabilizer just for one winter season with a full tank that does not have ethanol. As far as using a premium grade gasoline it is not necessary. The higher octane premium gasoline is only needed with a high compression engine to prevent pre-ignition (knocking). Your A does not need it nor does it probably like it. |
Re: Gas with stabilizer Dave, thanks for responding. I know hi octane is wasted on a Model A, but the only alcohol-free gas around here is Shell premium.

Re: Gas with stabilizer I stored a modern car for 2 1/2 years with a full tank of premium ethanol-added gasoline and a bottle of Sta-Bil, and it was still good when taken out of storage. Ran fine, and I burned almost all of that tankful before I added fresh fuel.

My Dodge Dakota sat with a full tank for a year & a half & it still smelled fresh. Once a week it was run for a short while, to keep the battery up & to keep the fuel pump WHIZZING. The closed venting system probably helped. I "wonder" if it would help on a Model A, to put plastic wrap on the neck, then put the cap on, to help keep moisture out??? Bill W. |
Re: Gas with stabilizer I use only ethanol free Shell Premium in the collector cars. Each is topped right up before storage and no stabiliser added. Did use stabiliser one year a while back, and had a heck of a job starting them all up. Even the lawnmower gave trouble.

Re: Gas with stabilizer Non-ethanal fuel is supposed to last for at least a year.
I've had Stabil go bad, it doesn't last long. I'm a Sea-Foam guy. |
