1939 pickup rear bumper I am just wondering what color would the rear bumper be? I know they were an option and most of ones we see now are chrome. But were they chrome as an option in 1939? Thanks

Re: 1939 pickup rear bumper Chrome as fair as I know. I don't think they ever had painted bumpers. Except for the ww2 black out versions.

Re: 1939 pickup rear bumper I realize you asked about a '39, but here is Kube's recently-finished, authentically-restored '40 pick-up with the optional rear bumper, FWIW! I think it needs one of them Western Auto bolt-on trailer balls strapped to that pretty bumper. DD

All jokes aside, when I got this truck it had a car bumper and brackets on the back, wrong tail lamp brackets, etc. Of all the luck, I actually nearly fell on the correct bumper in my stash. It was straight but needed plating. A guy needs to get lucky now and then! The tail lamp brackets utilized with a truck equipped with a rear bumper were fairly easy to find. |
Re: 1939 pickup rear bumper Thanks for the information and pictures. The Green book says 39 and 40 comm. are the same. No color or finish mentioned. Thanks again.

Re: 1939 pickup rear bumper Randy, I like black in the back:D The after market bumper brackets were 1/4" off on all the mounting holes for the bumper I had so I used the plated one in the front. My local welding shop made this one from my drawing and I had it powder coated black.

Re: 1939 pickup rear bumper Thanks Portlander, Your bumper looks really good. I have an old bumper for my 39 but I don't have the bumper mounts. Chrome is really nice, but is so expensive. Nice shiney chrome would also clash with the rest of my truck. Thanks
