How Many Spare Flathead V-8 Engines Out There?
 

I was just wondering, how many spare flathead V-8 engines are being held on to by Fordbarners? I got into Ford flatheads again in 2006 since selling my `53 Mercury in the 70's. Since 2006 I have collected four. A 59AB in case the 21 stud pukes in my `35, a `41 in case the 59AB pukes, an 8RT for my `51 pickup replacing the H engine (we called them Hot water sixes in the old days) and an 8BA to back up the 8RT. I just recently bought these two from a fellow Fordbarner. So you see, I can justify having those engines lying around in case the little woman should ask.:rolleyes:

But too, they are truly a work of art, pleasant to look at, seriously. But I would almost bet I am not the only Fordbarner that just likes having them around, just in case...

I have a 42 ,two 46 and three 8ba style. some good some cores waiting in an oil/acetone soak to free them up.

One 1937 with block off plates in need of repair for a 35 or 36 but know where a bunch more are located.not to far away,if i can find it again..

I have close to 15 motors. Mostly 59A, 3 49-53, 2 39-40 Ford, 2 99T and a 41 Mercury. I do have shelves with too many parts on them also.

What about factory relieved blocks. I have one but there is a couple cracks and needs sleves is it worth the money to stich and pin this and build another motor

1 spare '49 8CM rebuilt...promised, so far, to a local!

You guys need to learn about your CI factor. That would be Cylinder Index. To establish your Cylinder Index, you count all the cylinders you have (and yes you can count the motorcycle, the lawn mower, and even the leaf blower), BUT.........if your CI isnt your age, well, you dont have enough.
I'm at 56.........and I currently am 5 short............anyone got one of Henry's experimental 5 cylinder engines that they want to sell?

6 here. 3 known good blocks and 3 that have not been checked for cracks or leaks. Got a buddy up the road that has at least 20 flatheads lined up in his shed. I go there for parts.... :)

You can never have enough, most will be cracked when you take them apart. Even if they ran they can still be bad.

I have two 1936 engines one in good order, a 1934 block complete but rusted up and a C59A complete engine.
