Crab style distributor? How does one get a 6v crab style distributor for a '46 flathead?
|
Re: Crab style distributor? He sends his old one to Bubba and gets it back with different cap and clips and all dialed in. Worked very well for me. If your distributor is already real good, then you just get a crab cap and rotor and different clips, but I'd send it to Bubba. It's what he does. My .02.

Re: Crab style distributor? Hello Gear Rat
I just went through this, well ,just about through it, am assembling my distributer this week end, based on what I've learned here on the Barn Bubbas the only way to go, see my posting on here, " '46 Crab distributor/wire assy " lots of comments there, I tried using a plug wire set from Bob Drake, was the one he lists for '46, its plastic coated and WILL NOT fit inside the 2 piece cap, that's $45. US down the drain. Am going to use Packard Delco wire, am sure it will work PM me if we can share info |
Re: Crab style distributor? Bubba can get you the right parts and set you up with a "sweet" distributor. And Jim (Bubba) is always ready to help you along the way. A great resource.

Re: Crab style distributor? Thank you very much guys! Am I also able to get the adapter through you to mount the 2 bolt to a 3 bolt setup?

Re: Crab style distributor? We have the adapters.
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/i...prices-pg1.htm It's the IS-3241 adapter. |
Re: Crab style distributor? Hey guys!
Looking to go with a Mallory 12v distributor, but have a question... Will we need to change the stock crank pulley to accommodate for it? |

Re: Crab style distributor? oldasi
Be gald to help anyway i can... However the orginal post wanted to know how to get a six volt crab distributor.?? Then you wanted a adapter tp put a crab on a early helmet cover....?? Then you wanted to know if the Mallory distributor would clear the front pulley.?? I guess the answer is "sure" ?? :D BTW not beating on you but this is so much my everyday world.....:) |
Re: Crab style distributor? We've settled on upgrading to 12v so we want to pursue the Mallory option

Re: Crab style distributor? I've dealt with both Bubba and Charlie NY. Both top notch. Bubba made-up a few Pentronix crabs for me and Charlie made a crab with points for me. All 12 volt and furnished with coils.

Re: Crab style distributor? 3 Attachment(s)
Is this adapter supposed to be here? What do I do now? Lol
|
Re: Crab style distributor? To keep the water from getting more muddy. If you have a three bolt dist, there is a good chance you have a 221 cu in engine, not a 59AB 100 hrs 239 cu in. If you have a three bolt timing gear cover and want to run a crab type 42 dist., you will need an adapter.

Re: Crab style distributor? 2 Attachment(s)
As you can see, the slot of the adapter is not as wide as the slot of the cam. The adapter we have here is at least from the '40s. So, question is... Do we try reusing this adapter or go with a new one that spans the slot of the cam?
