34 ford front spring

I have a question, I have a 34 3wdw doing it old hot rod flathead engine. KELSEY wire wheels dropped axel.etc. My problem is that with a 4" dropped axel and Posey reversed eye front spring. I am still to high as far as fender lip to tire. I am running 550/16 " tires on the front. I am thinking of using a monoleaf front spring. Unfortunatley it would not be period correct. I am doing it as an early fifties style car. Any imput would be appreciated. Thanks Stan

Re: 34 ford front spring

you could roll the bushing ends on top of the spring which would give you a added drop.

Re: 34 ford front spring

Start selectively removing a spring leaf or two, trial and error, to see if it'll get down in the weeds like you want. Ain't much more that can be done except to replace the front crossmember with one being MORE flat, or having less of a U-shape. You really don't want to do something dumb like using longer shackles, which of course is almost impossible on a '34 anyway with the spring right over the axle. DD

I would work with your existing spring. I have had experience with the mono-leaf and they ride like a bucking bronco. A waste of money in my book.

You can move the section of the crossmember where the spring seats up about an inch.

People who "reverse the eyes" of a leaf spring do not unroll the eyes and roll them on the other side. They simply rebend the main portion of the spring in the other direction.

If you would read the first post, you would see he says he has a "Posey reversed eye front spring".

cant get too low, first the axle runs out of clearance at the rubber bumper stop, unless you follow JSEERY's advice

Once you get into z'in frames and air bags. you lost me. Gateway to sbc and turbo 400s. I get it, it's cool. Just not my thing. Cool changes. Streetrods are neat.

First of all a 4" dropped axle is really only 2.5" from stock. How about a pic of you car ? Is your wishbone split or stock? If stock and you mess to much with the spring the wishbone will get to close to the oil pan near the starter. In that case you will need the pan which is curved up by the starter.

Agreed - my 35 Coupe has one top leaf removed - along with 4" dropped axle, reverse eye spring and 5:50X16 front tire.

That looks perfect; much better than the roadster a few posts back.

Re: 34 ford front spring

On a 35 and later the wishbone will not interfere with the oil pan when messing with the spring.

Re: 34 ford front spring

Posie makes different height springs for that model? Also drive it at least 500 miles and it will drop after settling in. I use the lowest they make.

Re: 34 ford front spring

I used this front spring in my '32 roadster. Traditional, no sliders. Disassemble, use SlipPlate (graphite paint) between the leaves, then paint. Works great. I'm not sure if he's still selling them however. As Swanwaco32 notes, they will settle from new.

Do you have a side on profile picture to give us who can’t read an idea where your car sits.
