1929 sport coupe I'm looking at a 1929 sport coupe that i found on craig's list.
Can someone tell me the pros and cons about sport coupes please. Also, are sport coupes considered more or less favorable than a 5 window coupe. Many thanks in advance. |
Re: 1929 sport coupe The exciting/sporty appearance of a convertible, with all the comforts of a closed car! The best of both worlds.

Murphy,
I prefer the regular coupe, as it's quieter & somewhat warmer. Some say, "Coupes & tudors are SO common & are a dime a dozen"! What do I care? I'm common too! If I ever change, I'll probably get a "common" old tudor!! Bill W. |
Re: 1929 sport coupe Murphy
I have that very car that Im restoring, I like the look ,top covering and topwood is pricey but isnt everything;Alot of these have been turned into coupsters so my opinion is its a little rarer, but who cares build what you like, buy what you can afford becuase thats the cheapest part $$$going into it will be more |
Re: 1929 sport coupe Very classy styling. Hard to see out of the rear quarters.

Re: 1929 sport coupe Tops are expensive, hard to install, and stain easily. On the other hand, landau irons are very classy.

Re: 1929 sport coupe Generally I think they have a better resale value but not enough to determine how to spend your life's savings. I prefer Sport Coupes over five window Coupes, but the bottom line is I'll likely never own either as a "keeper" as neither is near the top of my list. What you like is far more important than dollar value.

Re: 1929 sport coupe Everyone knows that the sport coupe is THE most desireable of all Model A body styles. Good looks, a little unusual, and landau irons to boot! Just be sure to put the landau irons on the correct side of the car, with the correct end forward, so that they are curved correctly.
One real advantage of the sport coupe is that the rear curtain opens, keeping you cool in the summer. Most five-window coupes did not come with roll down rear windows, although many have now been converted with the availability of the repro kits for the rear window. |

I applaud you for your last sentence!!:) Bill W. |
Re: 1929 sport coupe I have a 1928 Sports coupe. It is a nice car that I first saw in 1960. I will not sell it until the time comes when I have to. But the one I like the best is the 1930-31 5 window coupes.
I have never got a car just because it might be worth more. I always by them because that is what I want at the time. You never know which one will be worth the most down the road. There was a time when you could not give away a 4 door, look at them now. |
Re: 1929 sport coupe I love my 29 Sport Coupe. I think the styling is what stands out but that being said, I would love to have a four door someday to add to my collection.

Re: 1929 sport coupe Why would any Model A have a con?
Sport coupes and Cabriolets look the best. They all have the same running gear don't they? Like Steve said, get what you like, I heard they aren't going to make any more of them.. |

Like others have said, it all comes down to what you like. But for me... there is nothing prettier than a '29 Sport Coupe!
I got lucky buying mine. I bought it from Bert's back when I didn't even know how to tell a '29 from a '30, or what models were most desirable, or if a Model A was better than a Model T, or if Ford was better than Che**. For some reason, I just liked the look of this little guy so I bought it. I didn't even test drive it because I didn't know how. I just trusted Steve and bought it. I am soooooo happy with it now. So happy! I can't believe how lucky I got. Clearly the best looking of them all. |

Re: 1929 sport coupe Personally, I like the Business Coupe the best. I guesse something like the landua bars makes the Sports Coupe look abit Gaudy, but I also dislike cowl lights, so it is all in personal taste. With the coupe body styles the Sports Coupe is 3rd on my list. Rod

Re: 1929 sport coupe Sport Coupes are 26 pounds heavier than Standard Coupes, but 92 pounds lighter than a Tudor.

I just purchased the Sport Coupe in the pic for $8500. It looks and runs great and has a "B" engine and new tires and new interior.
