RIP: Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) The actor who played Eddie Haskell on Leave it to Beaver just died. All of us who saw the show know the character he played. What does that have to do with Ford V8s? Their friend Lumpy had a 40 Ford convertible. They tied a chain to the rear axle and as he drove away, it pulled the rear end out from under the car. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local...9e6_story.html

Purple, of course (on our black & white TV)! I always understood that Haskell went-on to be an actual LA Cop. DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...6&d=1589997363 |

Re: RIP: Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) He was an L.A. police officer and was wounded in the line of duty, which led to his retirement.
I was a Kar Krazy Kid back in those days, and watched all of these shows in the hope that I would see a Hot Rod (the shows were all made in California, weren't they?). Occasionally, I was rewarded, I think Wally had a '36 coupe in a couple of episodes, Bud from "Father Knows Best" had an "A" roadster pickup in a couple of scenes. I saw "real" hot rods on "The Life of Riley" and "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet". There were even some on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" and even "Batman". They were a treat to my eyes up in boring Minnesota.:) I had a real life "Eddie Haskell" when I was a kid. When the parents were watching, it was always "Yes Sir", No Ma'am", and all of that; as soon as we were off by ourselves, this guy was the instigator of every dirty deed done in the neighborhood. My mother would always say, "Why aren't you more like that Gary Hart; he's always so polite and respectful". If she only knew. Bon Voyage Eddie; I knew you well. |

I remember virtually every car to which you're referring above. One in particular that comes to mind is the Chrisman Bros. coupe. This icon was instantly recognizable by it's unique hood/front end treatment which was accomplished when two '40 Ford hoods were "married" to form that one-off image. What is now known as one of the most-important early hot rods of all time ended-up under the ownership of George Barris, who in MY opinion was nothin' but a Bondo-slingin' bandit lookin' to make a quick buck. Sure enough, the Dobie Gillis studio called wanting something outlandish for an appearance on the show. George, in his infinitely-money-grubbing wisdom offered-up the Chrisman coupe, which he totally "gomezed" to look like the abhorration shown in the last picture below. It has since been mercifully and lovingly restored to it's original iteration. ALL of these shows you refer to are from the Golden Age of decent TV! Re: RIP: Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) I think it was on 'Fury,' the story of a horse and the boy who loved him', a couple of the gang bought old Jalopies and raced them around a track at the ranch. It made a big impression on me. My wife read me an article this morning claiming that 'Eddie Haskell' in real life was the Polar opposite of the character portrayed. He was kind, sincere and giving. Yes, RIP.

Re: RIP: Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) As far as the netflix type stuff we have been watching 'Schitt's Creek'. Let's just say it ain't no Dobie Gillis, but lightyears ahead of survivor or dancing with the stars. Still Schitt's is pretty much a modern day 'Green Acres'. They can't seem to come up with any new plots. Twelve o'clock high and the Fugitive were memorable....

Re: RIP: Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) Eddie, well eddie a icon!
Ya thought Eugene Levy's schitt's creek was very decent. Worth a watch if you get it. I liked it a lot. Been watching some modern "westerns" lately. "Hell on wheels" and "Justified". Also bummer about Fred Willard passing. Losing some greats. . |
