Modern Style Grease Fittings

I have a 1930 Tudor and about 30% of the grease fittings were replaced with modern fittings before I bought it. I definitely like the modern fittings better than the original fittings because I often can't get a tight fit on the old fittings and grease seems to go everywhere except into the fitting.

So...Since I don't show the car and use it as a driver I purchased a modern Grease Fitting Kit A-353000 from Snyder's and it came in the mail yesterday. The kit has a wide variety of modern fittings, but they all have threads. I know many of the existing fittings are pressed in...Do I just pull the old pressed in fittings out and let these grease fittings make their own threads as I twist them in? Is there another kit that I should have ordered instead?

The kit that I got had a mix of threaded fittings and press-in fittings, but the press-ins looked superficially like threaded fittings because they had ridges around them. There's a tool that fits over the head of the press-in so you can hammer it into place without damaging the valve.

This is the pic of the Bratton's kit; you can see some of the fittings have a screw thread while others just have the rings. Maybe the Snyder's pic doesn't represent what they're shipping now?

Snyder's also sells the installation tool - part #A-353020-M

In a pinch, you probably could use a socket of the right size.

You sure your not seeing the rings and thinking they are threads??

That's what I was wondering. I have used the press in ones and they work well.

Sometimes the threaded fittings will fit by screwing them in without a tap. Sometimes locktitie on the press in types may be required because grease pressure may force them out.

I looked more closely at the fittings and realized they are not threads, they are ridges. I should have looked at them more closely. I don't have one of those tools, but I am sure I can find something around here that will work to drive them in.

The right sized socket should do the job!
