I'm reaching out for some help. I have a 29 model a that I need to pull the gas tank so I can clean, treat, and seal. The car has been sitting with some gas in the tank since the mid-90s. I've heard of using white vinegar to clean the metal, but I still want to coat the inside. Is anyone in the Chattanooga area that can give me hand to remove the tank? I currently live in Knoxville and if you like you can ride down with me.

Maybe call MAFCA for a TN Model A Club.

Chattanooga is kinda slim now on Model-A folks. Bill Underwood told me he is beyond covered up and has throttled back. The late David Moore would have been the perfect person. There's the Smokey Mtn Model-A club in Knox, and there are a couple of guys down in Loudon area, but they are probably like everyone else and extremely busy with 'life'. I wonder if you would be better off to get the car back to Knoxville and then see if someone like Vic Varady could put the word out.

For what it is worth, I used a product like this several years back. My tank was all rusted inside and used this product - needed 3 fills and rinses not just one - but the inside of my tank is like new. I did not seal it afterwards, I just keep it full of gas and it fine. http://www.orisonmarketing.com/evapo-rust.html. I did this whole process without removing the tank. Filled through top, drained through gas on/off valve inside the cab. (tubing, buckets and a few rags :-) )

I've got a 29 now that the tank was filled up before parking it in 1965! tried Acetone and that kind of worked but the fumes are not nice, started putting a couple gals of E-85 gas (if you want to call it that) shook the car as hard as i could, stuck an air hose in the tank and bubbled it and, drained it out the bottom had to take the valve out the bottom and install a hose to it so i could blow air backward to open the hose up before draining it,did that once a day for about a week, pretty much took care of the problem still have a little more cleaning to do but at least i was able to put gas in and get the motor back running again

if I can get the tank off then I can clear and treat the tank myself, I've done several motorcycle tanks before, I just don't know how to get the tank off the car.
