Re: 52 merc crank in 8ba block blocks/con rods are the same pistons are merc specific to use with 4" throw on the crankshaft

Re: 52 merc crank in 8ba block All 8BA family blocks are basically interchangeable as was mentioned even though they sometimes have some minor differences. The only difference in a 1952 crank and the ones prior to 1951 is the capability to fit a torque converter & automatic transmission.

Re: 52 merc crank in 8ba block You can also put it in a 59AB block.

Re: 52 merc crank in 8ba block Done that 25 years ago. From memory I used full floating bearings from the 59ab and crank and pistons from the merc engine a friend gave me.

Re: 52 merc crank in 8ba block The crank should fit all 2.498 Blocks made from late 38 up. and even the 36Lb up when turned down to 2.398. These blocks may need alittle clearance for the rods.

kurt .....Just to be perfectly clear, there is NO DIFFERENCE between a Ford & a Mercury bare block manufactured between 1948 (trucks) and 1953. They're ALL the same cast block! Only difference (internally) is the crankshaft, pistons & camshaft. DD . |
Re: 52 merc crank in 8ba block Thanks everyone thought i might need to relieve bottom of cyl, seems that i don't.
