They pretty much look like they belong there, a good upgrade if you want to make a change. I helped a friend install one in his Tudor, he is very happy with it.

He is listed in the sticky above as a verified vendor and top seller. I just installed one of his boxes this winter and can verify it is top quality and service is second to none. Huge improvement over a non-rebuilt 2 tooth original. Contact Randy and you will not be disappointed.

The reason I was asking as I am considering modifying a box myself. The difference is I am considering the use of a Chevy pick up box. They are a much more modern design and vastly superior to the Ford design. They are sure cheaper than the F100 boxes. I was trying to get a cost estimate before getting in too much detail so I could know if it would just be better to buy a modified Ford box.

GPierce, did you mean to send the box pricing to me as well as Andy? I got it, but the 30/31 cost is less than the 28/29.

Andy, if you have an alternative, share it with me would you. Does your option bolt right in and have the same light switch/horn control?

Anyone know what year box Randy uses?

There is less work involved in the 30/31 conversion than there is in the 28/29, therefore less cost. This has to do with the Ford design.

I'm guessing the cost to be around -$600-$700- or more. With you suppling the F-100 box.:eek: Not a bad deal if you want a super smooth steering system. And, are not mechanically inclined.:o I've rebuilt both 7 and 2-tooth "A" steering gears and they work fine for me. However, some day

I believe he uses 1956 and thereabouts.

The box he provides has a flange with three holes for mounting to the frame. Two of the hole match up with the Model A's. He highly recommends drilling the third hole (and provides a template) because the new unit is heavier than the original.

I don't know if it was just me or not, but finaggling that thing into position was a real chore--much more so than I remember fighting with the original being. You'll want to remove the floor and clutch pedal and starter.

I had a problem with the horn rod being a bit too short, but this was due to Randy trying to customize a unit for my rather unusual setup. I was using a 30-31 2-tooth with a '29 keyed steering wheel.

Dont know if this is a Gross box,but given the amount of work it takes to do one,and the acquisition price of a core,his pricing is good.

1. extend the steering shaft.
2. machine sector shaft.
3. adapt bearing end cap for light rod.

plus cleaning up the core and doing what it needs.you can do it yourself,but in the end if you add it up and value your labor much you'll see he offers an honest product at a fair price.
