30/31 cowl band stud

I have a nice 30/31 cowl band with the exception that the threaded stud on one side is broken. Is it possible to swap that stud out? I have another band that is rough but has a good threaded stud on it.

Anything is possible, but I don't have one to check to see how hard it would be.

I’ve done that several times
Go to hardware store and get threaded rod
Piece it or make new
MiG welder almost necessary

I have done this and this is what I do . Find a long bolt the same thread as original . Cut the head off . With an angle grinder flapper wheel cut a 45 degree angle in the donor threaded rod and the original stub . You will need an assistant (girl friend or wife or both ) to hold the floppy cowl band while you MIG weld the connection . Gently crimped in the vice works fine ,the assistant keeps the rest of it clear tell her not to look at your very skillful welding . Just needs not too much and you can dress it afterwards . Connect the earth clamp to the good stud not to the stainless or you will burn mark the band and it wont polish out .Put some duct tape on the outside bottom end to avoid any random spatter . The stainless might be rainbow coloured afterwards but this just polishes out . It is a bit of a fiddle but works just fine .

So the remedy is to weld on a good section rather than remove the entire bad one and install a good one?

It is much easier to connect a new part stud to the existing stub . You will damage the band if you try to remove the old stud they are well connected(trust me) When you use the MIG to make the connection the band itself is protected . If you do manage to remove the old stud you will most likely burn a hole in the band it is thin also you will need suitable MIG wire to make the stainless/mild steel connection . Do not try to remove the old stud as you will most likely destroy the band .
