Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications 9 Attachment(s)
Got this orphan V12 engine last fall locally and have been slowly pulling it apart to try and save any usable pieces. Sold the water pumps and intake manifold but have found other parts like distributor, oil pan, starter, and generator completely unusable because the engine was left in a field for many decades. Had some time this afternoon and was able to remove the crankshaft and after a quick google search led nowhere thought I'd ask here. What were the standard mains and connecting rod crankshaft journal sizes? Also what was the bore size of these engines, looks like they had some changes over the years, The pistons on this one are stamped .060 over. Haven't measured anything yet and thought the all knowing sages here could provide some answers faster than the web. Thanks

Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications .
What a cool project! Is this similar to what it looks like on the top side? DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...6&d=1420420181 |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Yep, that's what the topside looks like except for a mountain of rust in the lifter/valve area. Not one valve moves at this time so went for the bottom end yesterday. To my surprise the old oil had done it job keeping the rust away from bearing areas and because of the 65 degree block orientation was able to reach all the connecting rod caps with ease unlike the V8.

Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications The V-12 Lincolns I own and have owned NEVER looked like that V-14.

Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications My eyes hurt, after looking at that.

Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Gary the bore std is 2.750, the rod journal size is 2.126, and the main size is 2.401.
Disclaimer; this information came out of 1938 service bulletins so this is the earlier V12. |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Wow! I looked at V8coopman's photo right before I left for work! What the heck is a V14, will post post photo of my junior V12 later. Thanks for the specs deuce. Some pics and measuring later and the start of piston removal I hope.

Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Hi Gary, The oil pump and pickup tube tell me it's probably a second series 292 . You could not bore out a 306 as the cylinder wall were to thin from the get go so I doubt it is a 306. I'm not sure of the exact year they changed oil pumps but think it was 46.I had both early and late Lincoln V12's when I had my 38 Zephyr. If the block isn't cracked it is worth saving. Good job saving what you can. Tim

How's about fully-assembled? DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...4&d=1442497613 |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Coop,
Stop teasing us. What did the v-14 go in? John |

C'mon, man! These V-14s came straight out of the imagination of somebody with a "full-race" computer loaded with "Photoshop". Wouldn't surprise me if it was "51Merc"....can't remember! DD |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Thats like the Russian tank engine theat GM posted a few years back .it was a 37 block with four water pumps, had a few fooled.
But aren't those V12s a big lump, I would love one,I would trade my 34 3w for a Lincoln zephyr coupe. Lawrie |

I'd trade my '35 Fordor Touring, my '36 Phaeton, AND your '34, the caravan, and the dragster, for this beauty. I saw it attending one meet in 2011. I think it's a 1941 but I really don't care! https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...5&d=1615249892 |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications "DD" - You are what my grandmother used to call "a wag".
You have to be careful what you post as there is always a few folks out there that will believe it. A sense of whimsey is not as common as you may have thought. |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications 13 Attachment(s)
Here's a real update, 10 pistons and rods out , last 2 frozen solid. I'm soaking in the magical mix for a few days and we'll see what happens. This engine was on a 45 degree angle in the outdoors for who knows how long so the right side is definitely worse off. Got the very unusable clutch, pressure plate and flywheel off as well. Put the crankshaft back upright for time being. My goal is to get the camshaft out to save as well, will be cleaning up the rods after I remove the pistons. Here's a bonus pic of the oil level float. These Lincoln engines didn't have a dipstick but a float with a thin brass rod protruding through the intake manifold with an indicator to let you know when the oil level was low. This thing is a moose compared to a Ford V8.

That's how you weed-out the riffraff! Ya know, I've been called way worse than a "wag" (I think)! So, just what is one of them 'waggy" things, anyway? DD |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications Hey Gary how about a detailed V12 on a Clayborne engine stand?:D
|
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications That's an interesting detail on the flywheel. I wonder what the thinking was behind that.
Fun trivia: I realised only recently that the Lincoln V12 is an "odd fire" engine. Even with the odd fire, the extra cylinders make it very smooth. Mart. |
Re: Lincoln V12 crankshaft bearing specifications DD,
You had me scratching my head with those photo shopped picts. LOL! Tim |
