Remove rear quarter on Woody Can anyone tell me what holds the hinge post in place on a 39 woody? I have the trim around the window removed, the 5 screws holding the upper wood in place. I the inside bracket on the post is removed & the brace on the wheel well panel is off. The rear section will drop down but the hinge post refuses to come down. The drip rail is also off & I don't see anything that would hold it in place. Thanks.

Re: Remove rear quarter on Woody There are nails that went through the roof (from the side) and could very well have passed in to the tongue of that post.

Re: Remove rear quarter on Woody The only nails I saw were the ones holding the rain gutter in place. Those are all out.

Re: Remove rear quarter on Woody Look closer... there's a bunch along the sides. Pain in the butt to remove them.
Did you remove the leatherette roof material? |
Re: Remove rear quarter on Woody I got it. There is a t nut in the roof wood above the hinge post. The t nut was part way into the tongue on the hinge post & it wouldn't let the quarter drop down.

Re: Remove rear quarter on Woody Lots of mortise and tenons in these wooden crates! They usually have a big machine screw into a T nut or big wood screw into the tenon. The exterior stainless caps are over a standard T nut.

Re: Remove rear quarter on Woody Yeah, it's been a few years since I'd restored the '39 and well, the memory is not what it once was. Thanks to both of you for jogging my memory.
Now I recall some of the hidden (beneath wood plugs) T nuts spinning when I'd attempted to remove their respective bolts. Those were fun :) |
