Keyed 6 volt source Has any one come up with a way to have 6v switched on and off by the ignition key?

Re: Keyed 6 volt source If you have an original cutout, you can tie to the input side. It'll only have power when the car is running. Depending on what you plan to use the power for, filtering and conditioning may be a good idea.

Re: Keyed 6 volt source Would be good to know what it is you're trying to do.
Wiring is from points - switch - coil - battery. (Coil is live at all times.) If you want to change to switched battery go points - coil - switch - battery. I recommend a fuse. |
Re: Keyed 6 volt source Thks for the reply. I originally connected to the input side of the gen cut out, but there is insufficient voltage until about 800-1000 rpm. If possible, I'd like to have an ign key source.

Re: Keyed 6 volt source Nu-rex makes a popout lookalike with a keyed accessory terminal. https://www.nurex.com/pop-out-look-a...ssory-terminal

Re: Keyed 6 volt source Are you running an original or original style popout switch??? ken

Re: Keyed 6 volt source What wires do you switch to get the switch before the coil and points?
I have original 6v wiring. |

I guess you don't with original pop-out. With an aftermarket normal type switch its easy. Its just terminal box to switch to coil - [ if + grd] then coil + to distributor. |

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6f2650a5_z.jpg Someone posted this schematic for rewiring ignition switch in order to use an electric shut-off switch. As stated, you can't do this with a Pop Out. |
Re: Keyed 6 volt source thanks. Just went out and did it. Took it for a test drive and all went well.

Re: Keyed 6 volt source my car has the armoured cable coming directly from the ignition switch---this must be the pop out ign switch (although is does not pop out, the cylinder that the key fits into does protrude sits out beyond the face of the instrument panel.)
I went inside the dist and brought a wire outside from the connection at the armoured cable. Engine dies when I connected a LED load. Maybe I need to install a diode to prevent leakage back from the points/condensor?? |
