Please help identify Ford Flathead 4 Attachment(s)
Hello! I recently came across this old Ford Flathead when I moved out to my grandparents property and have attempted to identify but still need help! I believe it has 21 bolts and I have shown pics of the markings. I believe a 1932-38 ?! Is there any value to it or should I just toss? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead 32-36. Most likely towards the latter part of that range.

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead The value depends on the condition of the block. If it is a useable block it has value.

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead Intake manifold looks like 35 or 36. Pete/Ct.

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead If it's been out in the weather for any length of time, the block is likely rusted too far gone. The crank and rods may have some value if they aren't rusted up. If it's been in a building out of the weather then there might be a better chance of usable parts. A lot of blocks were tossed due to freeze cracks up in the colder climates.

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead I'd say 35-36. Now, during 35 production year and through 36, some Ford engines were equipped with shell main bearings, whilst others were still poured babbit. The shell main bearing motors [known as LB engines], are particularly desirable with early Ford restorers, due to being somewhat cheaper/easier to rebuild.

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead Toss it

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead Save it if you can. People are always looking for parts. They do not make them anymore.
|
Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead well I can see, cast iron 35/36 heads, intake and also a oil sending unit, last one I saw on e-bay went for $50 so there are some usable parts, it just depends on how bad some one wants them and is also willing to take it apart

A view of the front of the engine would help. Is there a small tin can thingy with slot in the back attached to the right front corner of the oil pan? --road draft vent - first on 1935. Wire brush on left front machined block surface beside intake manifold look for stamped " LB '-- means insert main bearings--not poured. Only way to really know if LB engine is to pill pan and look. Part # 68 is 1936 --6505 ? couldn't figure -oil pump? Fun to id the engine, but messy and a challenge some of us like. Value ? depends. Fun old Fords! Thanks! Gene Tulsa |
Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead if grandpa left any old coupe or roadster bodies laying around, i would remove those, for you, free of charge of coarse ! must be some old ford guys around your parts that would maybe give a couple dollars more than scrap price. i always hate to see the stuff thrown away

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead This might help. It's an old thread that someone posted.Good information (my thanks to them by the way). As it turns out, I found that my spare 21 stud is an LB.

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead Okay, guys! I am going to take more pics as suggested. I have really no clue when told to look at different parts of motor! Lol! Not too much rusts here but as stated it possibly froze. I keep coming across more parts that are marked HF- I am assuming that stands for Henry Ford? Or am I assuming incorrectly? Will post pics of those as well! I am not some dumb blonde just have no clue what I’m looking at! Thank you guys for all the help!

Here are a few more pics I took earlier today. I was able to roll the motor on to its side and as you can see the bottom front has eroded. I did look up inside and looks like whatever is supposed to be there is still there! 😀 Thanks again!

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead love that light brown smooth western rust. not like the deep black pitted stuff we have here on the frozen swamp. looks like she's a goner. yard art at best, but a ford guy would at least save the bolts.

The picture where the front of the oilpan is rusted away. Measure the center to center distance of the two bolts holding the main bearing cap (just behind the gear) 3 1/4" center to center means LB mains insert /removable better-- not melted poured babbit. 3" center to center on the bolts means poured babbit. Lots of FORD guys would like to have a junk LB just look at & show folks. Not high valve but neat shop ART! Let us know --OK Fun! Gene Tulsa |
Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead Those are 1936 engine mounts; chances are higher of it being one of those desirable LB blox...although the front bearing cap is looking a bit sorry!

Re: Please help identify Ford Flathead Thank you guys for your help! Had an offer of a couple hundred so think I’ll let him have the art work! If I post pics of other parts with HF on them may I get some help identifying? HF does stand for Henry Ford correct?
