Grease for window regulators??
 

I'm installing the new glass in my 1940 Tudor and would like to apply a fresh dab of grease to the regulators and tracks. I have always wondered what the "dry" grease is that manufacturers apply to parts like this. It doesn't smell, doesn't melt in the heat, and maintains consistency for decades. There is still some remaining on my regulators and I'm confident they haven't been touched since the car rolled out of the factory in 40. Any thoughts on what type of product I should use?
I will try silicone spray for the glass channels.....I'm curious about what to use on the regulators and tracks.

They may have used a graphite lube like slip plate. It's still available but you might have to search a bit for it. Modern greases last very well but they do tend to attract dust particles over time. They may be a better corrosion inhibitor but it depends on the area conditions whether that would be a problem or not.

Isn't that the same as LubriPlate, the stuff you use to rebuild an engine? If so, the stuff I've used is pretty thin and would fall right off the regulator and end up in the bottom of the door/quarter. Is there a type of white lithium grease that is firm/dry?

All I can remember using on the few that I lubricated over the years was plain old fashioned 'wheel bearing grease', the kind that was 'stringy' and stuck to everything. (Probably the same stuff Henry used)

No, Slip PLate is a dry graphite lube. https://www.slipplate.com/
It's available in regular cans or rattle spray cans. There are also moly type lubes that are paste and spray as well under other brand names.

I used lubriplate(probably as old as the car) it's thicker than wheel bearing grease and sticks well to the metal.

I stopped by the oldest auto parts store I have locally and explained my situation. They knew exactly what I was referring to and handed me a tube of Sil-Glyde and from the looks of it I think they're right.
