Oil is pumped from base into valve chamber. Gravity takes over from there. Oil flowing into drip tray is picked up by the con rod dippers. Simple/ basic.

Re: oil lube circuit

Ford called it "pump-splash-gravity" feed

Pump: The pump is clearly the most over engineered part on a model a...capable of almost 100 psi,it actual job is to lift the oil about 8 inches, from the oil pan to the valve chamber.

Splash: the oil pan has a dipper tray in it,providing little pools of oil for the connecting rod cups ( called dippers)to scoop oil for the rod bearing..it also creates a monsoon of oil, four rods splashing through puddles at one splash per RPM makes one hell of a rainstorm of oil.this lubes the cam lobes, lifters, timing gears.

Gravity: the oil, pumped up to the valve chamber trickles down tubes to the main bearings and cam bores. The hydrodynamic principle lifts the crankshaft on a cushion of oil. Gravity volume is high enough for the low rpm engine.splash also occurs in the valve chamber..

It is a simple and effective system ,allow it to work some before driving,on cold startups it can take 30 seconds for the valve chamber to fill..warm her up,and let her catch oil before driving.

There is also an "oil return" tube that returns excess oil from the rear of the valve chamber to the lower front of the block, where the oil flows into the dipper tray.

Also note that the engine sits on a slope of 3° towards the rear.
