well that was interesting to watch. why are the little bastards in there runnin around when there's no food? wonder how long the stuff lasts. i bought a similar smelling stuff once, no work.

As I have posted many times before, the best thing to do is have your shop on a barren piece of ground (read : surrounded by parking lot or bare dirt) and DO NOT store anything edible in it. A bag of popcorn, an empty soda can, or (shudder) dog food will bring them in like a siren's call.

This has always worked for me.

I had an employee that brought his dog with him to work every day. Great dog and great employee. But he lept a supply of dog food in a plastic container in the carport by the shop.... Where my perfect body '37 1.5 ton resided. It had the most perfect original headliner I had seen in 25 trucks....One day I noticed seat stuffing coming outa the cracks at the header over the windshield.... Then I found rust through and pulled the corner of the headliner down and was showered by star shaped dog kibbles. Thousands of them. After tearing out the headliner, I lost interest and sold it. I will admit as a log hauler I wanted juice brakes too. But it was SICKENING.

get walk the plank trap got over 200 last year. up to 50 so far this year

The more you catch, the more there are. The best method is to keep them out. I haven't seen a rodent (or even a turd) since I started my extreme regimen.

Cut the grass down, keep at least 6 feet of bare ground around the perimeter, and keep the edibles out.

I realize that it is difficult with an old building and my advice is aimed more towards the guys with new shops.

Just don't give 'em a reason to want to get in.

They bring their own food to my shop. I find stashes of acorns everywhere. And I keep Tomcat pellets out, too.

We had a massive mouse problem at our shop. Literally while on the phone with customers they would run across my desk. We saw them daily. We went to the local animal shelter and let my daughter pick out a kitten. That was 3 years ago, and the cat stays at the shop. I have not seen a single mouse since we’ve had her. It’s weird she doesn’t kill them but just her presence seems to keep them away.

Now, the cat had clawed up three office chairs, but somehow does not mess with the upholstery in my four cars at the main shop as i leave the windows down. She sleeps in the trunk of my 40 coupe ( I leave the lid open for her) and she doesn’t cause damage to the cars. Best damn $40 I’ve ever spent and she’s a great cat. Lucky I guess, and I am typically not a cat person

i have a cat that is a mass murderer. he's not in my shop, its tight, but in the storage barn critters dont stand a chance. he thinks its his job. on cold nasty days he may not want to go out, so i tease him, "taking the day off? "

I've used peppermint oil with success spraying in the engine compartment so the little buggers don't eat the wiring.

if you think your going to keep them out YOUR DREAMING especially you guys that live where it snows you wouldn't believe the size of the mouse that can fit thru that tiny hole Some good advice here especially barren ground [no food no point in being there] combine that with a couple of permanent bait stations seems to keep them under control

I talked to an exterminator, and he said to use the bait boxes with the bigger block of bait in it. Place them at the openings of your building, garage doors, service doors, both inside and outside. Do not use the pellets. The mice can carry it to there home (usually in your seat or headliner) With the bigger blocks they have to chew off a piece , but can't take the whole thing.

The "Tom Cat" brand works great. The bait stations can be refilled after you learn how to lift the tabs. I also use just thee bait in plastic cups where animals can't get at them. This stuff works quickly.

I have been using the cinnamon pine cones that are everywhere during the christmas season seams to work well

Also, “Cab Fresh” botanical packets - 100% effective

Cats work ! Ive got 2 old shop cats , no rodents or lizards . They greet me every morning.
