TT differential to a T defferential

I am wondering if I can replace my TT differential with a regular T differential? I'm not hauling any load but would like more road speed. Any ideas?

No. Different mounting, different wheel base, different springs and spring mounts. Couple of choices; spend between 1000 and 2000 for the high speed ring gears or get an add on aftermarket transmission with overdrive.

Most TT's come from the factory with 7:1 rear. That equals 17 mph.

5:1 gears will give an easy 25 mph, and if you run high rpm will give you 35.

5:1 gears are scarce and relatively expensive. But you need either 5:1 gears or an auxiliary transmission with over drive to run a TT at over 17 mph as recommended by Ford if you have 7:1 gears.

I have a set of used, but serviceable 5:1 gears for a TT. Let me know via pm if you are interested...

I think a regular T rear axle would be too light. However I have seen two TT trucks with Model A car axles, one with a later V8 axle, and one with a modern Ford (maybe Explorer) axle. You have to do your own fabrication for spring and radius arm location.

Here is a link to the Warford over-under gearbox:

There were others including the Tiger gearbox that bolted to the rear axle input and the Ruxtell 2-speed rear axle. While none of them are common in this day and age, there are likely still repairable examples of these units still out there.

Lane Machine the KC Warford folks, makes a new aux. transmission that will let a TT cruise with the cars.
