Towing my Model A
 

So in Oct. I'm going to tow my A about 350 Miles I have a flatbed trailer. Can any of you give me.some advise on tying it down pictures would help immensely. Thanks for your advise in advance.

I Tow my 31 roadster on a flat trailer to michigan every year, i don't go over 55 because of the top. [unless you put top down]. I Use heavy duty ratchet straps on the axels [4 straps] and i keep check on them..done it the last 7 years and have had no problem.

I've hauled my "A's" thousands of miles in the past years. I used to tie to the axles but in the last couple years I've been throwing heavy duty ratchet straps over the front and rear bumper brackets and chinch them down. This takes all of the bounce out of the car. Someone else may have a better idea.

I have towed mine many miles, always tied to the axle. If you tie to the bumper brackets, the straps are loosening and tightening when it bounces.
There is no harm in the body bouncing, but make sure your axles are firm.

I pull my straps down tight enough that the car don't bounce.

Cross the straps that you use as tie downs as this keeps the vehicle from moving sideways while on the trailer.

I use "tire baskets" I purchased from U S Cargo Control in Iowa. Worked great on our trip on a lot of two lane highways in California & Nevada, on the way to last years MAFCA meet in Sparks. 570 miles up and back.

I would think this is the easiest on the car. Do you have attachment points in front and behind each tire?

History,
The basket straps are three point. On the trailer we bolted down "D" ring plates, 2 on the back side and 1 in front of the front tires, then 2 in front and 1 in the rear of the rear tires, The trailer deck is wood so we put a 1/8th plate on the bottom side of each tie down. Grade 8 bolts and nylon lock nuts. With the plates we used you need to take a router to the deck and make a recess.

My next question is leave it in gear or out of gear .I plan to check the wheels also. Anyone have any pictures of how they tie down.

Back it on the trailer...
Towing it with the grill facing forward exposes a lot more glass (all the lamps and the windshield), as well as the fins on the radiator, to whatever debris gets kicked up... There's a reason those accessory 'Stone Guards' have been around for a while...
Stop frequently and check the hitch, all your tires, your rachets and the tie-downs. Make the first check within the first ten miles... (It's always real hard to stop once you've gotten rolling, but...)
Get ready to wave a lot at the little kids in the cars that pass you, and enjoy all the thumbs up you are getting!!!!
I trailered my Cabriolet ~600 miles out of the mountains of Virginia, and while it's not quite as much fun as driving it will be, we had a blast... ( My Avatar shows it about to go on the trailer, the WRONG way... Lesson learned...)
