Leaking gas tank my 52 custom line sedan has developed a leak at the drain plug on the gas tank I used a sealant last year but it has started dripping again any suggestions as to a sealant or gasket.

Re: Leaking gas tank Is it leaking through the drain plug threads? What did you use to seal it?

Re: Leaking gas tank It is leaking through the drain plug threads, I don't recall the name of the sealant but it was suppose to work for diesel and gas didn't last but a year and a half.

Re: Leaking gas tank Use Teflon tape but keep it back off the first two threads. G.M.

Re: Leaking gas tank I bought the 5 oz tube of "E-Z Turn Lubricant" and used it to seal my fuel pressure gauge and it actually worked. I only used a dab of it but I figured it was worth having, despite the cost. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...ezturnlube.php

Re: Leaking gas tank I use Tite Seal T25-66 it is a medium weight paste and it has worked on any thread I ever put it on. We used it extensively on Subs.

Re: Leaking gas tank Is there any possibility that the threads have a crack in the fitting? I wouldn't spend to much time on sealing the leak if you have a cracked fitting.

Re: Leaking gas tank The plug is a pipe thread. I would never use teflon tape on a pipe thread or around gasoline. If you used teflon tape the first time you may have split the fitting in the tank. I've seen a transmission case crack when the plug had teflon tape on it. It allowed the plug to turn too easy into the threads and crack the case.

Re: Leaking gas tank If you can remove the plug, I would chase the threads and replace the plug and coat it with a Prematex Form a gasket #3 which is designed for todays modern fuels. You may have slightly loose threads ( or worn ) on the pipe plug.
