Isky cam
 

A customer brought an engine in for rebuild. Looks like an old performance build. The cam is an Iskenderian that is stamped 101. He called Isky and they requested that he send it to them for evaluation, which he has done. Has anyone heard of a 101 grind?

Is it possible the last digit is worn or missing? I believe I recalled some grind number with 1014, 1016, etc. I’m curious what Isky says once they get it.

The only cam I see that has "101" is the "track" listed in the attached.

He did say it was stamped in several places. Probably be a couple weeks before he gets it back. My first thought was that a digit was left off also.

Cheater cams were quite popular in the early days. They would pass a "lift" test only.
They would NOT pass a degreeing or visual test.
Many cams were ground with a stock grind on the first cylinder and something like a 1007B on the rest. Number one was the only cylinder checked normally.
Same way with cranks. 4.5 inch stroke on all but 1 and 5.. Stock stroke there.
Smokey figured out how to run alcohol and hide everything but the smell and even got away with that for awhile by using some castor oil in the fuel.

Yes!!!

Castrol R, I loved that stuff. I first got a whiff of it at the '59 Times Grand Prix, at Riverside.

I loved it so much that I ran it in my 400 Maico MX bike, even though it would foul the plugs. The plugs where easy to clean.
