What to do with old parts I am at the point where I am cleaning things out that I have not used in the last few builds.
I have dozens of old starters, generators, radiators, springs, etc. What are you guys doing with these ? It isn't worth the hassle to try and sell them on the web, the shipping is more than the value of the parts. My garbage can has been full to the brim for months but I think it's time for a full run to the dumps. |
Re: What to do with old parts A lot of that stuff can go to a steel mill or recycler. Better yet offer it to some young people who may be building cars and give it to them.

Re: What to do with old parts Why trash it? Someone, from somewhere, where is looking for what you have or will be prepared to store.
We're all pack- racks, to a degree. Advertise in any car club publication that your items are free if picked up. |
Re: What to do with old parts You also could add your location so members here could possibly stop by to relieve you of some of your burden.

Re: What to do with old parts Post it on The Swap meet as FREE.
|
Re: What to do with old parts HAMB has a pay it forward section for parts you do not need. Usually free and pa y shipping or pick up.

Re: What to do with old parts Go to a swap meet, place parts with sign that says free, they will be gone in minutes.
No shipping involved and the parts may get used. |
Re: What to do with old parts Might be some us here that could use the parts. And put some cash in your pocket if you’re selling. Mike

Re: What to do with old parts When I go to a car show or weekly get together, I make a list of FREE stuff and tape it to my windshield. It usually works with only a few hassles / questions etc about condition.

Re: What to do with old parts Stuff that I want to get rid of that dosn't have a lot of value I offer free for just the shipping costs.
|
Re: What to do with old parts Put it on Craigslist under Free Stuff.

Re: What to do with old parts Lay it out at end of driveway,it’ll be gone in the morning, old washing machines, dryers, just about anything!!!!

Re: What to do with old parts Sod Buster in post#7 has the best idea to get rid of the parts quickly. People at swap meets (like me) are generally kind of pack rats too, looking for more stuff.

Re: What to do with old parts young whippersnappers, like me, are always looking for good deals on parts for our jalopys

Re: What to do with old parts I am not in favor of strangers coming to my place.
I was helping a friend recently with a new rental he bought. He had a lot of items in the place that were left in it when he bought it. He put stuff out in front of the house and advertized "free stuff" on the web. 2 nights later people broke in and cleaned out his rental and his garage. I called a local guy who was able to make 3 trips to the recycler. He was happy to get the work and the scrap. |
Re: What to do with old parts what a shame

Re: What to do with old parts I don't know if anyone rebuilds old coils, or reuses the housings. I kind of hate to throw them out, but I do. I only paid $86 dollars for the rebuilt starter on my '54 - bought it online and they didn't want the core back, so I have my original sitting in the garage. Guess I'll just take it to NAPA and see if they want it.
I have body parts for old cars I no longer have. Hood, trunk lid, fender and windshield for a '63 Olds 88. All lying around my attic and basement. No serious swap meets around here. I'd like to trade some of that stuff for a pair of good hood hinges for my '54...but then I think: who out there with '54 Ford hood hinges wants Olds parts? :D. So in my basement they sit. I'll eventually try the AACA forums for parts and stuff. Even if I don't advertise, I think they have parts wanted secyions. Good idea for the OP. |
Re: What to do with old parts 95476. You junked it all? Sigh. Mike

Re: What to do with old parts I visited a "ol timer" that told me he used to stack old frames vertical to hold all the sheet metal and stuff in the bed of the truck higher for a bigger load to the scrapyard. Always a shame to scrap stuff, but not all this is gold. Some is very useful.
