Got the 24 coupe running After sitting in a garage since around 1962, I got my 24 coupe running.
I didn't do a lot to prep: changed the oil, removed the gas tank and carb and cleaned them, cleaned electrical contacts and added new battery cables. I put some AT fluid/acetone mix in the cylinders and gapped the plugs. The first attempt, it would fire, but that was about it. Second attempt, we changed the carb and after a bit, we got it running! The plugs and wires are ancient and I had no idea how the coils were, but we succeeded! It sounds pretty good. I ordered new plugs and wires, fan belt and hoses. I am hoping it wasn't a matter of everything being bad, but in symbiosis. Swapping out the old for the new may upset the equilibrium! There is a whole lot more to do, but I feel that I have passed a milestone! |
Re: Got the 24 coupe running That's a nice felling when something comes back to life again. I'll bet there is a pound of acorns and such in that muffler, something I would also look into.
I recently got my Fordor running again after a very long slumber, do a compression test on each cylinder and that will give you a general condition of the valves/cylinders ect. Good to here there's another T alive and kick'in again:D |
Re: Got the 24 coupe running A compression test is on my to do list. The muffler is rusted out, so nothing in there. I heard a story this weekend about a Model A that was started after many years and how many mice were living in that muffler!

Re: Got the 24 coupe running Mouse house in the muffler turns into a condo association in the valves and cylinder head:D

Re: Got the 24 coupe running You could post a photo so we could see your joy.

Re: Got the 24 coupe running I want to post a link to a video. I just haven't gotten around to it, yet.

Re: Got the 24 coupe running 1 Attachment(s)
Here is the good side of the coupe. I rescued it from a garage where it had been stored since the early 1960's. The passenger side is disassembled due to some rotten wood. I have my work cut out for me, but I am having a great time so far.

Re: Got the 24 coupe running That car is fortunate to have you for its owner!

Re: Got the 24 coupe running Thanks, Joe. I hope I am up to the task. So far, so good!

Re: Got the 24 coupe running Great picture there, several years ago I passed on a 25 Doctors coupe that was actually owned by a Portland physician. I do like the extra room in my Fordor.
Hope to get my 21" split rims from the fella in Australia soon, was leaning to wire wheels but sticking with the wood. |
