Gas struts for a 46 hood I'm looking to put gas struts on my 46 hood. Has anyone done this and if so where did you mount them? A photo would help.

Re: Gas struts for a 46 hood What are "Gas struts"? That is a colloquialism I've never heard before.

I used these; easy to install; tho I did add an extra stiffener to the edge of the hood as shown in the second picture. May not have been needed; but the bolt hole seemed to close to the edge to me.

Re: Gas struts for a 46 hood My experience with gas struts I would never buy them for a car. I've found them to be very expensive to replace and the replacements don't last long. I'm talking tractor hood and door.

Re: Gas struts for a 46 hood I used the speedway strut kit on my '48 Merc, I didn't have to brace the underside of the hood, but, I did put a brace on the bottom at the upper part of the inner fender and I had to use stronger struts as the originals wouldn't support the Merc hood.

Re: Gas struts for a 46 hood Why would you want to?? Fords design worked a long time.

Re: Gas struts for a 46 hood Hi I have no experience with that era Fords, but sure have on the trunk lid on a 40 convertible. It had gas struts conversion. I hated it. Maybe if you have access to different struts but I finally gave up and welded original brackets and put the original arms back on it. Its so many angles, and strength of struts mine would either not hold the lid up, or would stress the hinges and latch and certainly do not want to buckle your hood or trunk lid. My 2 cents . Steve
