Can someone go to downtown Chicago to verify a VIN for me?
 

Hello Barners I am helping an old timer hot Rodder friend of mine buy a 36 five window. It is in downtown Chicago and before we pay we want to make sure the car actually exists and see the Vin number stamped on the frame.

Is there someone available that could help us do this and we would pay expenses etc. Jealous we wouldn’t be able to get a great Chicago deep dish pizza in the process. Please let me know phone number is 831-238-8235

Yes, there is a lockdown order in effect, the suggestions are to stay at home except for travel such as work, doctor visits, groceries and other essentials and also limiting the number in groups outside the home to six. Of course masks and distancing are suggested but really, Chicago’s suggestions are no harsher than Houston’s even though positively in Chicago is around 11-12%, higher than Houston’s 8.5%.

Yes, but should some sort of self defense be brought along with a mask? It seems like it has been an incredibly crazy year there.

Ahh, you guys are a bunch of scardey-pants. I've lived in the big bad city most of my life and never had a problem. You just learn to avoid the bad neighborhoods where the barbarians live. Just like someone living in the north woods learns how to avoid bears, or someone on the western plains knows how to avoid snakes.

Thanks so much Jay for going to check out the car! Me and my old timer friend really appreciate you taking the time to do it, you are the man! The car is everything he hoped it would be, as an older hot rodding guy he just can’t build them himself anymore so this car with power steering and power brakes will fit the bill just right for him, as he likes to actually drive them around.

This is what makes the Fordbarn so awesome. And if anyone out there ever needs a similar favor in my area please just let me know.

I find most people that complain about the armageddon/total choas in a big city has never lived in a big city. Spent some time in west sub Chicago off oak park, went downtown a bunch. Was off Oak Park - Oak park Frank Loyd bungalow houses then L train then Cicero (liquor store/ gun store/ Liquor store (bit of an exaggeration, but it was the early 90s)) Non the paths meet just a train between. Denver/Chicago/Minneapolis/Tampa to list a few I've lived in.

Photos attached. My wife was born and raised in downtown Chicago, so she knew that area where the car was, no issues. We go there every Christmas season to visit her family, except this year obviously.
