Model A transport
 

Anyone out there know anyone that can bring a Vickki from South Dakota to north New Jersey? These transport companies are terrible.

Never used a transport company, but there is a good thread on the AACA forum regarding a transport nightmare! I would check with references well, before making a decision. Going for the guy that works the cheapest may not be the best bet. I know of a couple of guys I read about all the time that seem to be very honest and reliable with years of experience under their belt. One of them chimes in here once in awhile. You may have to wait for one of them to fit you into their schedule though.

Yes, 37+ years & almost 4 million accident-free transport miles. Unfortunately I cannot help the O.P. with this one.

Except for one out to California from the East or Great Lakes area & two
separate trips coming out of Florida going up North, I am booked 100% until September 1st.

Used Reliable a number of times and they are as their name implies.

A friend of mine used Reliable to move an entire collection of 13 cars half way across the US. Though not the cheapest, he was very please with their service. Hagerty Drivers Club members get a 10% discount with them as well.

Passport Transport - I had both good and bad results with them.
first car was brought from MA to FL by a wonderful husband & wife driver team.
unloaded it on the street right in front of our house.
second driver from NH to FL was a real horse's a**.
originally refused to drive into our neighborhood because the overhanging trees would scratch his truck.
finally talked him into bringing it within two blocks of the house, but I was at work and had to get a friend to meet him there and drive the car to our house.

My experience with Passport was great though maybe it was that particular driver. The opposite with Reliable which has their headquarters about forty miles from me. The seller called Reliable's number who quoted a cost and then after I sent money they raised the cost. Then it turned out that Reliable, perse, wasn't getting my car but was brokering unknown independent carriers. Two weeks and difficult to find anyone, I got a call that the car was on the way with no prior notice. Asked the driver was the cost what Reliable quoted. Didn't even know and had to call his boss. Now it's 50% more and they have my car captive. Driving through the night they're going to be here before the bank opens as they want cash. They had breakfast while my wife waited for the bank doors to open. A guy about a half mile from me drove for Reliable and every time I pass seeing that big orange truck, I'm reminded to never use them again.

I think I discussed this with the OP.

South Dakota is the worst state to transport out of.

They rely heavily on " road taxes " so any vehicle pulling a trailer
has to pull in for inspection.

There are small weigh stations & check points everywhere.

I will not even travel thru South Dakota.

South Dakota is a sparsely populated state - there is little demand
to bring vehicles in - you have to drop off a vehicle reasonably close
to where you are picking on up.

I someone is headed east along I-80 they are full by the time
they get to South Dakota.

Any vehicle can be transported if you are willing to pay all of the
mileage and costs involved in transport.

Every mile driven has to be paid for - that is an economic reality.

Thats crazy about S Dakota. I have a small enclosed trailer used mostly for motorcycles and construction. It has literally been pulled up and down the east coast and into Canada many, many times. Only problem I have ever had was going into PA (which is less than 5 miles from home in MD). They had me tied up for about 3 hours going through everything. No fines, a couple of warnings, then just as they were about to let me go, he asked for my DL and medical card? The look on his face was priceless when I produced a class A CDL with a current medical card. I know his plan all along was to hit me hard in the wallet for not having one!!

77Birdman: Really, in PA? I have pulled a commercially tagged 16ft box trailer with 3/4 ton Longbed Dodge Diesel thru that state several times and never run into any type of inspection. Of course I have a magnetic sign with my company name and USDOT number on the truck, so maybe that makes a difference.

As far as vehicle haulers for the OP, Bill's Auto Works comes to mind. Just met him once, seems to be pretty meticulous about what he does.

All of my encounters with the police have been traffic/driving related.


Personally some of my encounters with police officers have been less than pleasant. When young and had long hair, in college, got pulled over for forgetting to signal a lane change. Officer said he smelled alcohol, which was bs, used it as an excuse to search me and my car, while I waited handcuffed in his car. Found nothing, then breathalyzer registered 0. I feel I was respectful and complied during the whole process. Did not appreciate the feeling of being stripped of my freedom, and felt disrespected.



Half of my encounters felt like I was powerless and was at the mercy of the officer. Some encounters were pleasant and I appreciated the mutual respect given.



So I understand the frustration of the appearance of being "hit hard".
