Oil pan dipper tray modification for full pressure pump

1 Attachment(s)
I have a B motor that is set up for full pressure. When I got it there was no dipper tray in the oil pan.

I want to modify a dipper tray for use so I have some baffles in the pan and will keep the oil by the pickup. When I mocked it up I found that I needed to cut out so much that I would end up with only one baffle which won't serve too much purpose.

Does any one have any advice or photos of how they have done this before.

Thanks!

e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll send you the chapter of my book that deals with that.

Hey Will,
Is that a Dan Price oil pump set up or ?
My latest B that was just run in, has a set up in the oil pan without the dipper tray. It is planned out to keep the oil dammed up near the oil pump, so that there are no 'starvation' periods when oil is thrown away from pump by centrifugal force etc..
My mods were based on the information found in Jim B book (first book) and works well.
I ask you about your pump setup, because with that oil screen/pickup and those large lines, you are going to have more of a challenge than I had with just a modified V8 pump with a screen over it. Good luck.

Yes it is a Price pump. By any chance do you have any photos of your pan.

It will be a challenge, but I figure I would see how anyone else approached it first.

Thanks!

Hey Will,
I'll check for pan mod pics, but if I do not put any up...then can not locate.
You might be able to work around that price setup, but I don't have remedy in mind.
The pan mod is fairly straight forward and simple.
The idea is to dam up the oil around the pump so that an abundance of oil is available at all times for the pump. With your type of 'pickup/collector', IF it is screened and placed near the bottom of pan, I wouldn't be concerned with its operation. Just would keep ENOUGH good clean multi grade oil in engine and pump/pickup should work fine. My custom V8 pump does not have the pickup and tubing that you have. Therefor, I elected to use the DAMS .
Fasten (tack weld) one thin plate across pan in front of pump and one at rear of pump. At bottom of both cross dam plates, attach a door hinge (tack/pop rivet) at bottom of both dam plates (you cut two rectangular holes approximately size/shape of hinge...to only swing inward...ie.- let oil in but not out. Do NOT have to be oil tight to bottom of pan, just somewhat close.
If this doesn't make sense/clear ask more. I'll draw you whatever needed :).

note: there is another scheme, whereby you can keep/use the dipper tray to do same thing. I've used this plan also...but not with price type pump.
