Original 1935 parts help

Swapmeet coming up.....

Are there any distinguishing markings on original ford outside mirror arms?

Was the 32-35 gas cap made by Eaton? Anyone have photos of the inside?

Anyone have photos of the accessory fog lights offered in 1935?

Thanks!

Ford did not offer fog lights as an accessory in 35
The 35 gas cap was non-vented and shown below. They are not made by Eaton and most do not have Ford Script or any identification as to Mfg.

Car outside mirror arms are the long straight type in 35
You might like to get a copy of the V8 Club restoration book for 35-36

I believe the 35 outside Mirrors are Straight and the 36 Had the Curved arms per the 35/36 Ford restoration guide book. jmo kerk

The Eaton’s I have for the Model As have an Eaton symbol/name. Did not know if 32 on did also.
The ford script cap must have been made by Henry-

I do not know how to tell a repo mirror arm from an original.

Thanks.

Re: Original 1935 parts help

Stant made the '32 and up non-locking gas caps, non-vented through the '35 models and the vented version starting with the '36 models.

Ford generally did not make its own small parts if there were reliable suppliers in the field. The locking gas cap with Ford script was not made by Ford, but rather for Ford to its specifications.

Tim, 1935 Fords used a straight arm mirror as shown below. I have also included a factory drawing of the stainless clad gas cap used in 1935. Fog lights were not available from Ford in 1935 but could be purchased after market thru Unity manufacturing.

Great info Don, thank you
Does you unity info relate the model name or number?

Don,

Your drawing is enlightening with regard to the BB version's outer skin as I had understood them to be painted black rather than cadmium plated. That opinion was based on several examples encountered over the years, including the one on my station wagon and also by the "proves nothing" fact that I've not encountered one cadmium plated.

Dave, Another interesting item......There is no mention of venting on the diagram dated 3/5/36 and 4/8/36. Also note that on Stants locking cap drawings venting is not mentioned till 1939.

Don,
Thank you for your contribution to the 1935-1936 Fords historical archive preserved in the book you wrote.
The information has been helpful to teach me about my newly acquired Tudor and use it to roughly date the month of production. Unfortunately during the ride here the front window cracked. As i was inspecting it i noticed the ford logo and after reading your information realized the glass date coincides with the cars other features to tell the story of a March-April production date.
Thank you again!

Hopefully i can find a vendor who reproduces the window etching.

Re: Original 1935 parts help

I found the answer to my question on the Model A side.....so if anyone else needs the info:
I had used Sanders Classic Glass for my 1950 F1.
They can reproduce the Ford logo and date etching.

Re: Original 1935 parts help

If you don’t use danders you can have a local glass shop produce the glass and I can shoot you a date glass etch kit to do one piece..

Ditto on Don Rogers. He is a wealth of knowledge and if he has something to say about a topic you can take it as a fact not a opinion.

Hello, i found this topic looking to the 35 ford Tudor Glass drawings order a local glass manufacturing (I’m in Brazil) to make a new set to me.

Do you have the tech drawings with the measurements to share? If yes, could you please share it with me?

Regards
Rod

Re: Original 1935 parts help

DavidG, the 36 Ford gas cap does not need to be vented, since Ford provided a small vent pipe on the filler neck that was not used in 35 Fords that used a hydrostatic fuel gauge.

Re: Original 1935 parts help

So if i use a new Bob Drake tank in my 35 with an electric sending unit, will I need a vented cap?

RalphM If you are using a Drake tank with an electric sending unit you will need a vented cap or a 36 vented filler neck.
