Headlight switch
 

I have a 39’ 1/2 ton truck that did not have a horn rod/light switch. Just a empty hole in the steering wheel. If I can’t find a horn rod is there a way of making the headlights work? Thanks I’m new to these vehicles.

The original style light switch parts should be fairly easy to come by, but if your not concerned about it being original, just use a dash mounted light switch (like Ford switched to in 1940). The rod that goes down the column might be a bit more difficult to find.

The same basic parts were used 32 thru 39.

Sounds easier than trying to find the rod. I’m not real electrical, is it pretty easy to go with the 1940 switch?

All trucks are difficult to replace the switch rod any way- no room for the length. Newc

When I changed my '39 p/u to 12 volts I rewired it with a Rebel kit and changed the headlight switch to a universal one in the dash. I left the original rod and horn button in place. The horn still works with the original button but the light switch in the center of the steering wheel is non functional. Redlands isn't that far from Riverside if you want to look at my install. Not that much to see but PM me if you want to stop by.

As posted above, if you can find the steering wheel part of the light switch/horn button, it is easy to just fish a wire down the steering column and out the bottom of the steering box for a horn wire. Or, use an aftermarket horn button either on the steering wheel center or mounted somewhere on the dash or column.

Sounds easier and cheaper. I have an empty steering wheel (no horn or rod).
