1936 Ford and 1940 wheel hubs

Hi, I have two 36 fords. Love em… I am rebuilding the five window coupe and have a few questions.
I am keeping it fairly stock with mechanical brakes but want to run modern wheels and tires. (not the wide fives on this one) My question is, will 1940 wheel hubs fit the 36 spindles and rear axles, and will the 40 brake drums fit as well??? THANK YOU for any help.
John

No on the front, different offset for the drum . Yes on the rear.

1935 front drums will fit 36 spindles and have the same bolt pattern as 1940. you will have to do some slight modifications, but dead easy

What are the "slight modifications" Brian from NZ

The slight modifications are; to fit 40 Ford wheels to 35 drums, one needs to remove the 5 nubs inboard of the studs, in order the wheels can fit properly. The reverse of using 40's drums with wires, where spacers must be fitted in order to fit 35 wires.

There is a "no brainer" answer to this. Swap '37-'40 spindles onto your '36 axle. It's a "bolt-on" if you use king pins matching year of spindles. Even the tie rod and drag link will bolt-up! Easy-peasy!!

We're swapping '40 drums onto a '37 Coupe as we speak, to get rid of the wide-fives and make tire selection much easier. You can bolt-on '40-'48 16" wheels and caps, or in our case, 15" early F-100 wheels which take the same '40-'48 hub caps. DD
