Trans install help 3 Attachment(s)
Looking for pictures or a diagram of how the transmission and couplings go back on to the driveshaft on my 36 coupe. My great friend who built my motor and did the install moved to Florida and I don't have a clear photo of how it was:eek: Thanks so much for the help.

Maybe these pictures from Vanpelt's will help.

Re: Trans install help U joint goes on first. Then the one piece collar. Next the driveshaft gets inserted into the ujoint and slid up until the bell end of the torque tube mates up to the one piece collar. Then the two piece collar goes on last to hold it together. Make sure the cork strip is in the groove on the two piece collar and pack the ujoint cavity with grease before installing the one piece collar.

Re: Trans install help Make sure the gaskets are in place on either side of one piece collar before the driveshaft goes into splines on universal joint.
|
Re: Trans install help Remember the bolt and washer holding the ujoint on, the upset key has to rest in a spline so the washer won't turn

Re: Trans install help Thanks to all for the information, seemed a bit like a puzzle!

Re: Trans install help Randy In NJ, what did you mean about the upset key? I put the U joint on the trans with bolt and washer and it spins with the shaft/u joint?

I believe this notch punched in the washer in the first picture of an aftermarket washer is what he was referring to. I would only use an OEM Ford Bellville washer like the one in the second picture. Re: Trans install help Just a little heads up, sometimes its very difficult to install the trans [if fitting on its own] with the bearing retainer / mount in place. I have a 35 pickup and I have to install once the trans is mounted to the engine.
