1931 Murray fordor rear door ?

Hello

I just got a 1931 Murray fordor the rear door hinges were haphazardly screwed into the wood with modern screws. They do not fit or work well. I removed a door and it revealed only one thru hole in the for the top hinge in the wood and it does not seem to be in the correct location. Any one have measurements or a procedure to locate them correctly

Thanks

Easy way for pics:
Click the "blue post reply" lower left bottom of page, when text box opens, in the top middle of the bar you will see a "paperclip" next to the smiley face, click that, a window will open "manage attachments" click "choose file" then pick your picture, after you picked up to seven pics click the top "upload" on the right hand side of the text box, wait for it to upload.
You must type something, anything into the text box message, scroll down to see "preview post" at bottom of your text box, you should see your message as it will appear when you post, if you like it click "submit reply" to post.
Just make sure the picture file is not to large, if your pics are too big, attached them to an e-mail, don't send it, just copy/save once attached, they're smaller.

It looks to me that there was one hole in them before he screwed the hinges on and added holes. I not sure if I can go by the one hole as they don't all seem to line up very well with the hinges?

Can you post some detail pictures of your car. the wood door frames tells me we need to properly ID your vehicle before we can resolve your problem.

Should there not be a formed sheet metal piece over the wood which would have all the correct hole locations etc.?

yep, '31's have metal frames, has a wood insert but the frames are metal.
Waiting for pics, it may have a 31 rad shell and that's how they determined the year

Run your engine numbers and see what you get, can't date your car by it because they changed them out all the time, but it would be interesting to see what you have under the hood.

I have heard of others using flat head machine screws with a plate, lock washers and nuts. the plate "sandwiches" the wood between the it and the hinge. Yea, some of the interior has to be removed but they say it is better than glueing in plugs for a part that has so much weight as the door.

Didn't Ford make the change to the slant windshield body in July of 1931? Murray made the 165C Standard Fordors and the 155C Town Sedan for 1930 an early 1931. These are three side window types.

Someone that has restored one of these is bound to be out there. It's hard to believe that they would only use one mounting hole unless the wood was replaced sometime in the past for a previous restoration. It's been a long time since 1931.

Thank you this got me thinking so I looked thru a large box of parts and found the two sheet metal covers that go over the wood

At some point a B motor was installed. which I did know before I went to look at it. Not exactly what I was looking for as I wanted the complete Model A driving experience

Linkpin,
Looking at your pictures from the last post it looks like you have a Briggs body car. Your door windows seem to have a straight top on the window opening. A Murray body has a slight curve to the top of the window opening.
You stated that the doors were hard to open, with the odd screw set up are you sure you have the correct hinges. I had to replace one on our '29 Murray TS and I had a heck of a time finding a TS hinge. They do not reproduce them.
