...and you should be able to find about 50 desirable cars you missed in the previous viewings each time you see it!
Was that a '32 sedan delivery parked over at the side? And howabout that maniac in the Rolls Royce? "Jeeves! My Ice cream is Melting! Step onit!!"

amazing less than 10 years after the model t & i did not see one in the film. you would think after ford made millons of them. in a nice climet like ca there would be a lot still runing around.

Thanks Ryan, I never saw it before. Amazing. The people going about their business driving those cars & were sitting here drooling over them.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

Thanks for bringing it back around, I missed it the other times it's been posted.

Other than the nice cars, I find it interesting that there are no lines marking the traffic lanes and there are still abundant open spaces there.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

Model A's? There are a LOT. You aren't noticing them because the focal point is a fairly small clump of cars traveling in the same direction as the camera car.
Look at the cars going the other way, then look at the curb on the left for parked examples, including a nice roadster.

at 2.10 theres a 32 3 window parked behind a 32 tudor sedan.

I think there's a parked '32 sedan delivery...just a flash of it.

Who's got the keys to the Go-Back Time Machine?

You guys can have the Fords - I want to check out a few of those vacant corner lots on Wilshire!

A great piece of L. A. and auto history. Very enjoyable video, Ryan, thanks.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

There seems to be very little order as far as lanes go. Must have been a lot of crumpled fenders in those days.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

The real problem in this clip is the lack of parking spots, the abundance of parking meters and the overly aggressive meter maids handing out summons. Oh,, did anyone notice the red light camera too?

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

I noticed too no model t's. probably in the poor section of town there would be plenty still in 1935. The area looked pretty well off.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

Wilshire Blvd must have been pretty upscale in 35. Lots of Packards, and the Model Ts were driven by the working folk on the other side of town?

Thanks for the great film clip ride.

I really like the cars but man, did you guys see how many gas stations there were? I love the Signal station towards the end of the video.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

I saw a T or two, and a Dodge of that vintage. At this time, T's were essentially valueless and so a reasonable choice for those with nearly no money...I've heard from vintage people I have known that the best T on the planet was worth around $5.00 not long after they were discontinued.

rustythumb 02-22-2013 01:37 PM

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

that almost new '32 3-window must have had a re-paint since the body & fenders are the same color.

Dirty30 02-22-2013 02:47 PM

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

Bruce,I've also heard from vintage psople that T's were so cheap and plentiful that when they finally gave up the ghost, people would just leave them where they died not even bother to go back and get them

I missed this clip all the other times it has been posted. But I liked it sooo much that I have watched it about 4 times already. Gotta go, about to watch it again!

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

My Father and some other Marines bought a Model A for $40 to use on liberty in about 1943 in California. When it was time to continue their tour of the Pacific, they parked it on the beach and left! I guess that would have been in San Diego.
The abandoned Model A story really bugged me when I was young. I wanted that car!

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

I saw a Model t roadster at 2:31,
1933 Ford Deluxe coupe three window at 3:36
1928 Ford Roadster at 3:37
1932 Ford Victoria at 4:10

Yea, thats pretty wild how the cars just drove 3 wide sometimes...just all over the place swerving in and out all the time.

X1, every time I see something like this, especially this one , being born in L.A. 31 years later. Did anyone notice the .9 & .12 cent gas prices?

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

What happened to all those cars? It seems the odds would be that there are still a lot of them around. And interesting too that there was not a single stop made on that drive. No stop lights? And no lanes either, apparently. Fascinating.

Re: A Drive Down Wilshire Blvd.

counted eight top down roadsters/ converts, must have been in the winter? just thinking how great it would be to go back in time and see all those potential fords. then again i would have most likely been run over by a chev.
