My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today 1 Attachment(s)
Here is a picture of my 1934 Ford. My grandfather bought the car new in Lawrence, MA in 1934. My family told me that my grandfather was learning how to drive and in the process had an accident. He had to fork over $15 to fix the damage to the other car and decided to let someone else drive. The "someone else" turned out to be my father along with his 8 brothers and sisters.
The car was taken off the road in 1951 and put in the family garage. In 1970 my aunt gave the car to me. A dear friend did some repair work on it including putting in a new set of rings and through the years he helped me to maintiain it. He passed away in 2008. Since 1970 it has had almost no restoration work. Its about as original as original can be except for the paint. My father and uncles had painted it black with a brush in the early 1940s so I had it redone in 1970. I thought the color I picked was close to the original but it really isn't. Not bad, though, for a $150 paint job. It runs great and always starts. In 1970 it had just over 58,000 original miles on it and today it has 62,028. Wow, thats less than 100 miles per year. Shame on me for that but now that I'm retired I hope to put more on. |

Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today Great history and congrads for keeping it in the family! I bought my 34 tudor when I was 14, am now 63. I wish I had more history on the car. Keep any and all documents, dates etc. on the car. I think it just makes them that much more valuable. Ken

Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today That is a great story and a sweet looking car. Its good to see that it is still in the family. It isn't very often that hear of a story where the car was bought new by a parent or grandparent and is still in the family.
The car reminds me of the Bonny & Clyde car. Thanks for sharing the story and picture and please post more. |

Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today I agree, that's a good story. Do I see it right that the grille still has that stoved in part where your grandfather was in the accident? I've had my truck since 1957, and finished the 10 year resto in 2009. Byron.

Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today Hopefully, I've uploaded a few more photos to an album. This should be the locations: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/album....ictureid=18581
A special thank you to "PeteVS" for his help in teaching me how to get photos onto this site. Tom http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictur...ictureid=18581 |
Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today Byron, I really don't know if the grill dent was "the one". All I know is that I didn't do it!!!!
|
Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today Making progress there Tom! Only one thing left to do- Go back to your album and open up a picture. Look down below the picture and see that there are two address codes. Here's a picture of an image and the codes.
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/pictur...ictureid=18588 Highlight and copy the lower of the two lines (the "BB" one.) Now, go back to your post and paste that line into the text. Preview the text and you should have the picture big and proud staring at you. (I was tempted to do that for you but I think I can only get the address codes from my own album.) |
Re: My Grandfather's 1934 Ford Today what a Kool car I would like to park it in my garage! just maintain it and drive it!
