Wheel Colors My 31 pickup is finally going to the body shop this weekend
I've decided on Gunmetal Blue (as near as I can tell was the original color) But I'm still trying to decide on the wheel color - I know most trucks had black wheels, and that may be the route I go, but my wife and my son both just kind of give me a 'look' when I say 'black' They seem to think it might be 'too much' black with the fenders, running boards and aprons. Any suggestions ? Thanks Scott |
Re: Wheel Colors A pickup was not a "show car" in it's day. So I would go for the black wheels. Think they would look good with the Gunmetal Blue.

Re: Wheel Colors Black.

Re: Wheel Colors Black wheels really makes the model A look original. When I did our lombard blue roadster I had already bought straw paint for the wheels. My wife wanted red wheels so I painted them a sort of dark red with blackwall tires and we both really like it.

Re: Wheel Colors i vote for black

Re: Wheel Colors This is my favorite blue Model A truck. I understand the logic for black but this is just stunning!

Re: Wheel Colors I have a Rubellite Red 1930 CCPU that had straw wheels for many years. I just had my wheels powder coated "wet" black, and I like the overall looks of the truck better. How it looks like a "worker" truck not a show truck. I vote for black....

Re: Wheel Colors The wheels that are on it right now are yellow - not 'straw', more of a mustard color
I may just spray them black, and see what they think after it's done |

Re: Wheel Colors For a pickup, i'm going to weigh in with black. Especially with the gun-metal blue. I think that would look really neat, clean, and original.

Re: Wheel Colors Scott,
When you get your truck done painted send me a pic's of the truck. I think mine was Rock Moss Green on the outside and gun metal blue on the inside. [email protected] Please. why ask others it your truck paint what color you want. No disrepect, just its yours you have tobe happy with the color. |
Re: Wheel Colors Although I am partial to straw yellow, I agree with most of you and vote black for the p/u truck.

Re: Wheel Colors I'm a graphic designer by trade, for many years now and I agree that Scott, you should make up your own mind. As I was thinking further about this thread, I didn't see anything with regard to subliminal effects color has, and I didn't offer anything either. In design (that is what we are all doing when we colorize our restorations) you almost always give up something to gain something. In good design, we almost always compromise. In this case, it is more flashy, at the cost of originality. But, I think it goes beyond that. It is flashy/showy/fun/attention at the cost of originality/toughness/business-minded/usefulness. No I don't mean that a truck with colored wheels isn't tough enough, or useful. Subliminally speaking, these are some of the truths that follow color, perticularly here with regard to the Model A.
I say again, that Scott, you should paint as you and your family desire, but with not only the actual, visual color in mind, but rather, the feeling you want to get from your truck as an overall package. I also offer this very humbly as I am contemplating the very same thing currently for my 29 Phaeton....orange wheels as last restored (looks great) or original. It is a hard decision to make. Tom |

Re: Wheel Colors 1 Attachment(s)
I just went through that very discussion with my wife. I originally painted the wheels black with black wall tires, she wanted red wheels and white walls. Guess what the car has on it now?

Re: Wheel Colors I would like to change mine but can't yet. Yellow is just to fancy for me.
